Parents are known to love their children unconditionally and it is also clear that they would do anything for them, just to see them happy.

Unfortunately, sometimes parents have to face their own demons, or are emotionally unstable, so much so that they can’t figure out how to properly express their love to their children. Such conditions in extreme cases lead these people to actions no parent would ever consider, like committing suicide and taking their children to the grave with them.

One such example is a man from San Diego, who drove off a cliff a couple of days ago. The man, who appears to be suicidal, had his twin daughters with him in the car, intending to take them with him to his watery grave.

47-year-old Robert Brians used to own a tile company, but after he filed for bankruptcy, and after being arrested for domestic battery, his wife left him and they got divorced earlier this year. However, the man could still visit his twins under supervision of a relative.

A few days ago, while the 2-year-old girls were at a relative’s house, the man visited them and after a few hours he left. However, he returned later on to claim the children. The man took the girls without permission and called and texted his ex-wife, Jenna, “clearly stating that she may not see her kids again”, a friend of Jenna’s explains.

Indeed, the man was intending to take his own and his children’s lives by driving off a bridge, as he later on confessed.

At 4:30 am the same morning, the children’s mother called the police asking for help. Through a phone call, they were able to pinpoint the man’s location and soon a SWAT team arrived at the spot where the man’s phone had indicated.

“A few minutes later, police officers spotted his truck and he proceeded to keep going and drove off the cliff. Medics arrived right at the scene,” recalls the woman.

Just when the police feared that the three were dead or at least severely injured, a K9 saw movement from inside the car.

“I looked at the truck and I could now see he was holding both girls in his arms, so it was a little sigh of relief that they weren’t stuck in the truck,” said Officer Jonathan Wiese, who saved them.

The officer didn’t hesitate. He knew he had to help them whatever it took. What if instead of this father and his girls, his wife and kid were down there desperately needing help?

“I could see [the man], and he had one of the girls in his arms, and I have a 2-year-old daughter at home, so I imagined, ‘What if that was my wife and kid down there?’” he told KNSD. “You’re not going to stand there on the cliff and watch it happen.”

Not wanting to sit idly the officer took action and used his K9’s dog leash to unbelievably rappel his way down the 50-foot cliff to reach the twins.

Eventually, the twins and their father were pulled out of the water and immediately taken to an ambulance that was already at the scene.

Everyone now thinks of Wiese as a hero, but according to him, he only did what he had to do and nothing more than that.

Fortunately, the girls are now at a stable condition in the hospital, but they will be needing professional assistance to overcome the trauma in the future. For this reason, a friend of the mother’s has started a GoFundMe to help the woman and the two kids.

This was undoubtedly a heroic thing to do. Thanks to the officer, the two girls will be able to see their mother again.
