A lot of events and activities have been canceled recently due to the coronavirus pandemic. Among those events was the dance competition that 6-year-old Miela Kroenke had been looking forward to all year.
She had been practicing and getting ready for months with all of the other young kids in her dance class.
It’s no surprise that when the studio shut down recently due to the government’s stay at home order, Miela was devastated.
Luckily, her dad, Lieutenant Tyler Kroenke who works with the Nebraska State Police, came to the rescue.
He had another plan in mind that ultimately ended up saving the day. Lt. Kroenke decided to learn the dance with Miela so they could perform together in video form.
“After Lt. Kroenke’s daughter’s dance competition season was postponed, her dance studio challenged the dancers to teach a parent part of a dance as a way to continue practicing,” explains NSP Troop B Nights on Twitter.
“Lt. Kroenke is a great sport and happily participated. GOOD WORK Sir!”
The idea was that they would then be able to share it with all of their friends and family online.
Everyone would still get to see all of the hard work that went into preparing for the performance, even if the real event would be postponed still for many months.
Neither of them ever expected that their dance video would go viral, but that’s exactly what happened.
“When life gives you global pandemic lemons, the lemonade you make has to be fabulous!” writes Nebraska State Patrol.
The officer might have looked slightly out of place next to his adorable young daughter, yet, he certainly knows how to have fun.
Miela wore a blue tutu and a red top for the performance while her dad, Lt. Kroenke, wore his full police uniform.
The best part though was the officer’s little Wonder Woman cape and goofy glasses. It was a hilarious combination. However, it made perfect sense given the theme of the song that they performed to.
The officer is a hero when he is out patrolling the streets and a hero in his own home to his family and daughter.
Thus, the dance routine was done to “Holding Out For A Hero” by Bonnie Tyler. It’s a classic 1980s dance track that was originally written as part of the Footloose soundtrack — one of the most celebrated musical films of all time.
The officer might not be as smooth as the dancers in the movie, however, he’s much funnier!
Dancing isn’t normally part of his job description, so we can’t blame him for being a little goofy-looking.
“Sure, Lt. Kroenke has moves, but Miela is the star of this show! We need to get this pair on TV with Ellen DeGeneres or Dancing with the Stars or something like that!” writes Nebraska State Patrol on Facebook.
His daughter took the lead in the performance and he followed shortly behind her, trying to keep up with her smooth style.
He did the best that he could!
The good news is that they’re going to have plenty of time to keep practicing in the following days.
The quarantine is likely to continue for several more weeks still, if not several months. Thanks to the help of Lt. Kroenke though, Miela won’t forget any of her routine in the meantime. When the time finally comes for her official dance recital to take place, she will be prepped and ready.
