We’ve all heard those stories of mothers who gain enough adrenaline and strength to lift a car off their children. It makes sense… it’s their own child.

But you’ve probably never heard of people lifting up a 28-ton train all to save a stranger.

Andy said he was shocked to learn that dozens of commuters rushed to his aid with Superman strength to save his life. Andy’s leg became stuck between the train and the platform in Aug. 2014 at a Perth, Australia train station.

“My left leg missed the train and fell down the platform, right down past my knee, up to my thigh,” he told 9News Australia. “I just got caught up in the rush somehow getting on the train, stepped through the gap instead of on to the train.”

The train’s staff rushed to pull him out, however, their attempts were unsuccessful.

That’s when the staff asked passengers to move to the other side of the carriage. That, however, didn’t work either. So, they then asked about 50 commuters to get off of the train and help push the train off of Andy.

Two pushes later and he was free.

“In the end, all the passengers lined up along the platform and tilted the train just far enough for me to be pulled out of the gap,” Andy said.

CNN reports that one of the passengers, Nicolas Taylor, told PerthNow that Andy seemed a little embarrassed “because right where he fell was the ‘mind the gap’ writing.” Their rescue was so swift that it only delayed the train schedule about 15 minutes.

Andy was treated by paramedics but, thankfully, wasn’t injured. The story spread through local and international news but Andy didn’t realize the extent of his rescue until he was released and later saw it on TV.

His entire rescue had been captured on video via closed circuit TV.

“I didn’t realize how many people were witnessing the situation until I saw the footage later on the news,” he told 9News. “I was amazed. I had no idea it was that big of an incident, that it took that many people to free me.”

Andy’s rescue is a true testament to people power and the gravity of what people can achieve when they work together for a common goal. You can watch Andy’s rescue in the video below.
