As a way of welcoming him, his students pulled off a good and well-planned prank. It was even titled the “Best Classroom April Fool’s Prank Ever,” and it definitely lives up to its name. One can even say that it was carefully planned and executed by the students.

The no-phone policy has been a rule by many professors.

It has been used to stop students from getting distracted when they are in class. Most professors ask their students to keep their cellphones inside their bags while others ask them to place them in a secure area on the teacher’s table. Whatever it may be, students are asked to comply with this rule.

This group of students thought of this rule as a way to surprise their favorite professor.

“We thought what better way to welcome him than to make him a YouTube sensation,” said Bailey Terebinski, Aquinas College senior in an interview with Fox17.

Dr. Stephen Barrows is enjoying his second semester at Aquinas College. He is the newest professor on campus and his students love him. As a way of making him laugh, they thought of using his cell phone policy for their prank.

“We just started brainstorming. At first we started thinking of just really ridiculous ideas, but then we remembered the cell phone policy: if your cell phone rang in class, you had to answer it on speakerphone,” said Terebinski.

Using this idea, they formulated and executed their plan.

During their class with Dr. Barrows, one of their female classmate’s phone rang. As a rule, she had to take the call in front of everyone. What they didn’t expect was the response of the caller.

“Hello is this is Ms. Nefcy?” the caller asked their classmate which their classmate responded yes.

This is where the part that started their prank.

“Hi this is Kevin from Pregnancy Resource Center. Per your request, I am calling to inform you that the test results have come positive. Congratulations!”

Dr. Barrows was shocked and he felt guilty.

“Umm okay you may shut that down.” he asked because he knew he put his student in a tight situation. He was very remorseful. “Hey I want to publicly apologize.”

“It’s okay. I’ve already accepted this besides I already know what I am going to call the baby.” she said.

This is where the good part comes in.

“No woman should have to publicly reveal her pregnancy unless she’s doing it purposefully. So I just thought, ‘Oh, I am so sorry that this happened to her this way,’” said Dr. Barrows in an interview with Fox17.

Today, Dr. Barrows has changed his policy. When a phone rings, his students should turn it off.

“(Professor Barrows) said, ‘alright, second pop-quiz, flip it over.’ Then he said, ‘I’m just kidding, April Fool’s, it’s just homework,” then all of us thought okay, you just wait,” said Raechel Wrona in an interview with Fox17.

We can clearly see that Dr. Barrows is a funny and great professor that his students love.
