Marrying someone who already has children automatically comes with added compromises and responsibilities. You must not only love and cherish your future spouse for the rest of your life, but you also have to do the same for their children.

This was going to be the case for Katie Hild, future wife of Jeremy.

She knew that the moment she married him, she would become one with him, but also with his son Landon. Besides that, she knew that from that moment on, she would have to make a promise not only to herself and her future husband and son but also to Landon’s mother, Casey, as well as his stepfather, Tyler.

So, when Katie wrote her wedding vows, she made sure to include Jeremy’s family in them, as well.

She invited Landon’s mother and stepfather to the wedding, and when it was time to make their vows, she surprised the entire family. She started to recite her vows to Jeremy, as in each traditional wedding.

But what happened after that brought everyone to tears.

The selfless woman then turned to Casey and Tyler and started to recite an entirely new set of vows specifically dedicated to the both of them. She expressed her love for them and her gratitude for all the support that they gave her. She told them that she wanted this family to be one, united family and that she would be the best co-parent to Landon that she could.

“Co-parenting means sharing the duties of a child. So, I didn’t tell anyone what I was doing. I not only vowed to Jeremy. I gave a vow to Casey and Tyler. Then I vowed to Landon, and then to Jeremy. I wasn’t just going into a marriage with Jeremy and needed his trust and respect, but I needed Casey’s and Tyler’s, too. One thing I promised, was to be ONE family, always. I know without hesitation, we will never break that promise,” Katie told Love What Matters.

But this was not the end of her vows.

After reciting her vows to Casey and Tyler, she turned to Landon, and got on her knees. She then vowed to love him and to take care of him for the rest of her life. She also vowed to be Landon’s best friend for the upcoming decennia and to be a parent to him even when he doesn’t want her to be. She was very serious about the fact that Landon was about to become her son, too.

According to Katie, it is in Landon’s best interest for all family members to work together.

In Katie’s mind, the family unification was much more important that having her husband’s ex at her wedding day or to let past relationship troubles bring down their union.

“I know I can speak for us all, parenting is hard yet amazing; but co-parenting? It’s a blessing. It was the hardest and best four years of my life. It takes true understanding and support from the ones who love you. Everyone facing custody problems, acceptance, understanding, relationship problems, etc; we get it. Not everyone gets the luxury of having a relationship like we formed; but it’s possible to get along, communicate, and give the same rules/love/respect on both sides for your child/children. Go against the norm. BE that CHANGE,” Katie told Love What Matters.

When she finished her vows, guests and family members broke down in tears.

They had never heard such a positive and complete set of vows, dedicated to an entire family before. It seems like the entire family will have a bright and positive future altogether, and are definitely not planning on letting old and new relationships get in the way of their family bonding.
