As we head deeper into winter, many of us are going to face the shocking coldness that is the snow. Most of us that will face this have been doing so for years, and we know how to clear it out of our way to protect ourselves- or so we think. A recent story has people being reminded that we all need to be careful when and where we shovel our snow.

Felix Bonilla’s girlfriend, Sashalynn Rosa, and their children ages one and three decided to get warm in the car after the power went out of their house. While Felix decided to shovel all of the snow out of the way, the rest of them went inside to get kickstarted.

Thinking that everything was cleared out of the way, the people that were already inside cranked up the heat up on high. Unfortunately, there was still snow stuck in the tailpipe, blocking the exhaust. This stopped the carbon monoxide from leaving the car properly and funneled the dangerous gas back into the car.

The three eventually succumbed to the poisonous gases, and Bonilla was distraught over the terrifying experience. Because of its colorless, odorless nature, carbon monoxide is incredibly scary and dangerous.

This is a strong reminder for those that are heading into the snowy weather, and an incredibly tragic story for the family involved. Please be safe this winter season by making sure that the car is cleared out in all ways of snow.
