Have you ever lost something you truly treasured?
Something you used every day that helped you distance yourself from the negativity in the world?
The feeling that washes over one when they realize their prized possession is gone can be overwhelming.
For one young student, his Nintendo 3DS was what kept him out of trouble and away from the mean kids.
Sean Hawkins was just an average middle school student, he did his work and kept his head down.
Every lunch break, Sean would pull out his Nintendo 3DS and lose himself in the world on his screen.
One day though, Sean set his game down and, before he knew it, it was gone.
Someone had stolen the system and Sean was absolutely heartbroken.
Not only was it his favorite escape from the daily grind of school, but it had also been a gift from his grandmother.
Can you imagine how he must’ve felt?
Sean asked around, but no one stepped up and said that they knew what had happened.
Sean quickly went to the school’s community whiteboard and left a message there, asking for anyone who knew anything to contact him.
Still, no one came forward.
That doesn’t mean his plea went unnoticed though, and a few students decided to do something about Sean’s situation.
One of Sean’s fellow students, a young girl named Shawna Cantiliano, knew how much the gaming system meant to the boy.
Shawna told NBC Bay Area:
“I always see that kid playing on his DS, just ignoring all of his bullies and in his own little world.”
Shawna knew she wanted to try to help, but she also knew she couldn’t do it all on her own.
She reached out to some of her other friends from the school and together they brainstormed a way to help their classmate.
In the end, the students decided to buy a new system for Sean and they set about raising the money they needed.
What kind-hearted kids, don’t you think?
It didn’t take long before they had the money and were able to purchase a new system for him.
The students informed Sean’s teacher of what had happened and that they were going to present him with the new system that day.
Sean’s teacher asked him to come to his desk while Shawna and her friends made their way into the room and up to the anxious boy.
They explained that they had seen the message Sean had left on the whiteboard and how much they had wanted to help him.
The look of confusion on Sean’s face quickly turned to one of overwhelming joy when he learned what they had done.
Without even touching his new system, Sean wrapped his arms around one of the student’s necks and held on tightly as tears escaped from his eyes.
He even gave his classmate a few cheek kisses bringing a little wave of laughter around the room.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” the boy said. “You’re an angel from God.”
Now, Sean has his favorite thing in the world back and just might have made a few new friends too.
