Concerned citizen sees cop pursuing suspect on foot and offers him a ride
A community is only as good as the members who keep it that way. That's where ordinary people like this person step in.

“Together, as a community, we are strong.”

A community is only as good as the members who keep it so.

Whether in simple deeds or acts of great courage, members helping others is the keystone to any successful society.

In White Settlement, Texas, these words were realized. It was also included in the watermark of a police recording when the officers got help in unexpected ways.

Responding to a stolen vehicle

Two cops responded to a report of a stolen vehicle spotted in South Cherry Lane.

The White Settlement Police Department uses what’s so-called the “Flock Safety System” to make the recovery of stolen vehicles and apprehension of fugitives easier.

That day, they got a hit on a car when their system read a license plate through its camera. The plates pinged back as “stolen” so the cops went into action.

They tried to stop the suspect via a traffic stop.

Their plan didn’t work.

Seeing the officers walking towards him, the suspect got spooked and quickly bolted out of the scene.

The two officers quickly started a pursuit but one of them got left behind.

The officer still tried to catch up.

Eventually, however, he got help from someone they didn’t expect. Corporal J. Porter saw a car stop right in front of him

The driver of the blue sedan saw him lagging behind and insisted on driving him the rest of the way. The officer quickly jumped into the back seat.

The officer held the door slightly open so he could jump out quickly once they got close.

The drive isn’t far but still, Corporal Porter can be heard expressing his gratitude.

He then led the driver by sharing directions and keeping a sharp eye on where the suspect and his partner weaved through.

The suspect was soon apprehended.

Officer Samuel Brown was hot on the suspect’s tail as soon as he tried to escape.

When Corporal Porter reached the scene, Officer Brown had already taken down the suspect.

“It’s hot outside, they have heavy gear on, and sometimes some of us have better cardio than others. I’m in that camp too. I probably would have needed a ride sooner than the corporal did,” Chief Chris Cook said in a statement quoted by WFAA.

The encounter showed the best of the community while also giving the cops some laughs.

Officer Brown said in a statement to the press that he laughed when he saw Corporal Porter stepping out of a civilian vehicle.

“I look over my shoulder, trying to see who’s coming up on me, and then I see Porter jump out of the car. It was pretty funny,” Brown said.

In reply, Corporal Porter just laughed saying, “Had to get taxied, don’t mind me.” Meanwhile, after helping out, the civilian just drove off.

The White Settlement Police Department expressed their gratitude to the citizen.

“Together, WSPD and our community, we are strong,” read a post from the department. The Good Samaritan “police back-up” was identified as Jimmy Davis.

“My instincts just kicked in,” Davis, a former security guard, said to the news outlet. “I was glad I was at the right place at the right time. I did what I had to, and I would do it again.”
