Child cheers up bus driver after bus breaks down. 2 days later driver shows up to his door

When things don’t go right, it’s easy to get upset.

So, it’s nice to have someone try to check in with you and make sure you’re OK.

And maybe even brighten up your day.

For Shamika Anderson, that person was a 10-year-old boy.

Anderson is a bus driver for a Milwaukee County bus company.

Her day wasn’t going great because her bus had broken down.

DJ Fromme, a 10-year-old who lives in the neighborhood, saw Anderson and thought that she could use some cheering up.

“She was like down, like had her head down. She was disappointed. I could tell, so I decided to walk up to her, and said, ‘Hey how are you doing?'” DJ told WISN ABC.

The friendly gesture was caught on video. Video from the bus shows DJ walking over and sitting down next to Anderson to cheer her up.

He figured that a ride on his skateboard might do the trick and Anderson was totally up for it.

She held his hand as she stepped onto his skateboard. And it definitely helped her to let go and cheer up a bit.

Anderson ended up learning that DJ had it tough growing up, that he loves YouTube, and how he recently popped his bike tires and needed to get them fixed.

That’s why he was riding his skateboard instead of his bike.

“I was just intrigued by how humble he was, you know, with everything he was going through. He was still extremely positive. He didn’t seem sad about anything. He just made the best out of everything,” Anderson said.

She also wrote about the encounter on Facebook.

“He was only 10 years old. Told me so much about himself in 20 minutes. He was so humble and even though his story was sad you can tell it didn’t put a damper on his spirit. I was so upset about my bus breaking down he came over and distracted me from being frustrated,” she wrote. “I let him talk me into trying to ride his skateboard while he held me up. He was so full of humanity from the way he connected with me, the mailman in the neighborhood and even watching how he knew all the people walking past in the neighborhood and he spoke to everybody.”

Anderson decided that she would buy DJ a new bike and dropped the bike off to DJ two days later.

DJ couldn’t wait to take it out for a ride. He figures he can go as fast as 21 mph on it.

DJ’s mom, Beate Fromme, was taken aback when she found out that a stranger wanted to buy her son a bike.

Especially, someone with three kids of their own.

She is also happy to see that Anderson is taking the time to keep in touch with her son.

Anderson has invited DJ to come to church with her family on Sunday.

“You’re driving a bus, you have three kids of your own, and you take the time to buy him a bike. It was amazing and you keep in touch with him? She calls all the time. It’s amazing, amazing that there are people like that,” DJ Fromme’s mother, Beate Fromme said.

Anderson said that what she learned from DJ that day was far more valuable than the price of that new bike.

“And I even told my kids sometimes we don’t be grateful for the things we have and we have a lot and here he is just having a skateboard and he made the best of it,” Anderson explained.

But for DJ, he was just trying to make someone smile.
