Especially right now while the world is going through a challenging time, we could all use and show a little more kindness. Everyone’s feeling stressed, which makes even small gestures seem so much bigger. If you need a little pick-me-up, this story will touch your heart. It proves that even during a pandemic, generous people exist.
Having a bad day
On a particular day, a woman headed to her local grocery store. Having been stuck at home for quite some time, she needed to restock on a lot of items. But as she approached the cashier to pay, something unexpected happened.
She didn’t have enough money
Feeling in complete despair, the only thing the woman knew to do was cry. So, standing there in line with all her grocery items already rung up, she was helpless and feeling hopeless. What on earth was she going to do now?
Only 19 years old
It was just her good fortune that on that day, she got in John Lopez Jr’s line. Although he’s only 19, he has a huge heart. He took at job at Walmart to start saving money for college. From the very first day, he carefully saved every dollar he earned.
Now facing a dilemma
Here was John behind the cashier register and a woman in front of him crying because she was short of money to pay for all her items. He immediately knew what he had to do.
At that moment, John thought to himself that this woman needed money more than he did. So graciously, he offered to pay. Without any hesitation, he took the $110 needed out of his pocket. He wasn’t expecting anything in return.
But someone noticed his good deed
It just so happened that another customer by the name of Laci Smith saw what John had done. She was incredibly touched and decided to share what she witnessed on her Facebook page. It didn’t take any time at all for the comments to start rolling in.
People were impressed
Not only were Laci’s friends and family impressed with John’s good deed but also strangers. Once the story went viral, it was decided to start a GoFundMe page. The goal was to raise enough money for John to fulfill his dream of attending college.
A tremendous response
The page, called Just Giving, went wild. Within a very short amount of time, roughly $31,000 had been raised on John’s behalf. His $110 gesture to someone he’d never met before was rewarded back to him multiple times over.
John couldn’t believe it
After all, he hadn’t given the woman the money because he expected anything in return. He was merely doing something good for a person having a really bad day. But he’s super excited that his dream will come true.
Spreading love and hope
Through John’s story, hopefully, other people will give unconditionally to people in need. Even if they don’t get rewarded, doing something kind is all that matters. If you see something good happen, tell others about it.
During these challenging times, we all need to hear uplifting stories like this one. We encourage everyone to follow John’s example. Just imagine what a better world we would live in.
