We all have a burden to carry, and sharing doesn’t always come easy. But if kindness is already second nature to us, there’s no doubt we can touch other people’s lives.

It can be the simplest gesture most accessible to us.

This Walmart cashier found it in his heart to share his blessings despite his own struggles.

John Lopez, Jr. was working on his usual shift, and, as always, he gives his best disposition.

Then one of his customers found herself in a dilemma as she approached the cashier to pay.

It turns out her groceries went over $110 and it was more than she could afford.

The customer started crying, not knowing what to do with the excess. It seems like she really needed them but just ran short of cash.

John stepped in to help, and his kind heart saved the day.

Without a second thought, he jumped in to help and offered to pay for her bill. John said that he felt that he needed to help that woman. But that wasn’t the end of the story for John.

When asked what made him do it, he credited this to what he learned from his parents.

“My parents basically taught me if someone needs help, you should be able to help them, and if someone is down, bring them up,” he told CBS DFW news. “I make it my goal to at least in one way make someone smile.”

It turns out a customer named Laci Smith posted this story on Facebook, and it instantly went viral.

The now-deleted post garnered around 2,000 likes and shares, but Walmart picked up this story and posted it on their page, too.

They are obviously proud of John and his kind heart. People were quick to spread the word, and their kindness, too. They praised John’s heart and hoped they could repay him for his good deeds.

That’s when someone named Brandon Weddle started a GoFundMe campaign for John. He wrote on the page:

“This year, I’d like to keep the Christmas spirit alive by giving back to this young man. I’d like to give back to him for constantly giving himself to our community. Any little bit would be much appreciated. He is also trying to save money to put himself into college. Let’s come together as a community and pay John’s tuition. He will do big things!”

From there, the GoFundMe page went viral, too.

People from the community, and even those who simply came across his story, shared whatever they could to help John with his college tuition.

He didn’t expect that his random act of kindness would lead him to this chance of going to college.

Currently, the GoFundMe page already has $37,087 total donations.

One moment John was just walking in the doors of Walmart around nine months ago to earn and pay for his college tuition. The next moment he has the entire community’s support.

His kindness didn’t only create a ripple effect that influenced others to share, but it went back to him many fold.
