As citizens have rushed to stock their pantries during the coronavirus, there’s one essential product that keeps flying off store shelves…toilet paper.
For some, getting ahold of t.p. hasn’t been easy, a problem many of us wouldn’t have ever dreamed of running into.
There isn’t anything funny in regards to the reason this issue has faced the world. However, the video below will hopefully make you chuckle during this difficult time. Comedian Carol Burnett did a skit on her show back in the day about toilet paper that’s both hilarious and fitting in today’s world too!
The Carol Burnett Show was broadcast by CBS in the 60s and 70s and focused around sketch comedy and entertainment. For 11 seasons the program had audiences rolling in their seats!
Burnett is a beloved actress with a brilliant comedic talent. Impressively, The Carol Burnett Show took home numerous Golden Globe and Emmy Awards while on-air, and is listed as one of Time Magazine’s “ALL-TIME 100 TV Shows.”
Get ready for a humorous skit about toilet paper that seems oh so relevant.
In the video below, Burnett plays a housewife who’s just getting back from doing some grocery shopping. Only there isn’t a family member in sight! But when she opens the fridge, she discovers a roll of t.p. with a note from her son.
She reads:
“Dear Mom. Your toilet tissue isn’t soft enough, so I went to the library…forever. Love, Bobby.”
Burnett laughs it off and goes to put her other groceries away. Yet, inside of the cabinet, she’s met with another roll of toilet paper.
There’s a second message for the mom, only this time, it’s from her daughter. It says:
“Dear Mom. I ran off with a motorcycle gang that had softer toilet tissue. LuLu.”
Burnett’s upset and hilariously responds:
“She tried to warn me, but I just wouldn’t change brands!”
The sketch keeps getting funnier and funnier as it goes on.
Next, the doorbell rings and Burnett’s handed a roll of toilet paper by the postman. It’s from her husband, and apparently, he’s not too happy with his wife’s t.p. buying either!
It’s hard to keep a straight face as she reads:
“Dear Mom. Mentally, I just couldn’t cope with our toilet tissue so I quit my job today and ran off with the lady chiropractor. The two of us are living now in Arizona working the earth praying for a good harvest.”
The note continues:
“Sure, it’s a simple life compared to what we had, but after your toilet tissue fiasco, this is what I need now. Someday perhaps we’ll see each other again, if not, we’ll work something else out.”
There are even more toilet paper notes to come for the poor housewife – including one from the neighbors and one from a burglar!
Burnett is a comedic genius and her facial expressions are incredible. Eventually, she looks at the camera with a message that’s hitting home in 2020. She says:
“Why, why did I have to take my toilet tissue for granted! I don’t know, it just didn’t seem that important, but I guess it is.”
Viewers who’ve watched the comedy skit recently have posted comments like:
“This would be so good to play in all the stores now”
Someone else wrote:
“If they only knew back then how funny this would be today.”
It’s a classic clip about t.p. that will hopefully add a little brightness to your day. There’s even a hysterical ending to it too! Press play to enjoy it for yourself.
