Cheryl Levy is a person who just lives for helping other people. The woman and beloved mother has more than thirty years of experience taking care of elderly people and made a promise to her parents that she’d never put them away in a nursing home, but would care for them inside their home instead.
Cheryl is someone who would always put others before her. Unfortunately, recent times haven’t been positive for Cheryl as she dealt with a number of personal losses.
Cheryl’s mom, dad, and her husband all tragically passed away in a short time period. During these difficult times, Cheryl’s own daughters made the same promise to her as their mom made to her parents: they would always take care of their mom if she was too old or unable to care for herself so she would never have to be transferred to a nursing home. A beautiful promise that was shared over two generations.
A couple of months later, Cheryl had to deal with yet another incredibly devastating loss.
Cheryl had been working as a 24/7 caretaker for an elderly woman known as Bunny, and the two had an unbreakable bond together. After her parents and her husband, Bunny passed away as well. Bunny saw Cheryl as her daughter and the elderly woman was always like a mom to Cheryl. Bunny was just her employer at first, but she quickly became family.
Cheryl struggled with a depression but could luckily rely on her daughters to lift her spirits. She wouldn’t know what to do without her daughters, and they decided it was about time that someone else would think about Cheryl and give her the attention she deserves.
That’s why daughter Jessica wrote a letter to the FOX5 Surprise Squad team, where reporters meet incredible people such as Cheryl and present them with a surprise.
While Cheryl was taking care of someone else, she was surprised to find a reporter and an entire camera crew outside.
The reporter then tells her that she had been selected to receive a surprise thanks to Jessica’s letter.
“My mom has always put everyone first before herself. My mom has been a caregiver for as long as I can remember, taking care of elderly, but mostly taking care of her family,” the letter reads.
Cheryl quickly became very emotional as she burst into tears and was overwhelmed by the surprise. The reporter then handed her a small red box, and she opened it up to reveal a gift card for a $1000 spa day, something she had never done before.
She absolutely loved the surprise and couldn’t wait to phone Jessica to tell her all about it.
