Nurses are extraordinary creatures. Some people even say they are angels.
Not only do they care for people who are ill, sometimes gravely, but they help to comfort families of the ill as well.
You’ll often find them going above and beyond their job descriptions to heal bodies and hearts, giving their patients and their families peace of mind.
They have this amazing ability to create light in even the darkest of times (it probably comes from all the love in their hearts).
And this is exactly what they did for Blair Young and Pamela Tripps.
Young and Tripps’ marriage has been a long time coming. They have been together for 23 years and finally planned to get married at Grand Prairie chapel on May 17 after years of being together.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t going to be possible. That’s because Young was hospitalized with complications of stage 4 colon cancer.
Young was stuck in a hospital bed and unable to stand for an entire wedding ceremony.
So when the ICU nursing team at Medical City Arlington Neurotrauma in Texas heard of Young and Tripps’ story, they decided that there had to be a wedding no matter what.
Though it would be a hospital bedside wedding, there would still be flowers and a wedding cake.
Family and friends were also in attendance and happily recorded the ceremony on their cell phones.
The couple was overjoyed that they could make it official, getting blindsided by the nursing staff who coordinated everything without them knowing. They exchanged a beautiful set of rings and the officiant declared that they were man and wife.
When Young kissed his new bride, the family started blowing a barrage of bubbles to commemorate the moment.
Then after that, it was time for cake.
“Today we had plans to get married and to enjoy a good day but we still enjoying a good day and we still got married. So, kudos to us. I would be a fool to let her go. She’s the best thing that happened to me,” said Young. “Living life without her is like living life without myself.”
Tripps admitted that she didn’t think the day would come since her love was in the hospital.
“It means a lot to me. It let me know that people do care and it was just beautiful. It feels good. We’ve been waiting for a long time,” said Tripps. “He’s kind, sweet, lovable. I love him. I didn’t think it was going to happen with him being in the hospital, but it did,” she said.
Young and Tripps were extremely grateful for what the nurses did for them.
“I’m not a crying man, but it brings tears to my eyes to see somebody backed us up and got us where we need to be,” Young said. “We would like to say never ever give up on love. Even if you think it’s taking too long. Just wait it will come. Friendship comes first, love comes second. Without friendship it’s no love. And with friendship, there’s plenty love so never give up on friendship and love. Always back the two up.”
