It’s always important to stay focused and alert while driving. Most of the time not only do drivers need to be aware of their own driving but it’s much more important to be aware of other drivers and their surroundings.

Jeannie Mitchell works for the Milwaukee County Transit System in the great state of Wisconsin. She happened to be in the right place at the right time and didn’t ignore the opportunity to do a great deed of kindness.

A thoughtful bus driver

When you’ve been in and around town a number of times for so many years – you probably think you’ve seen it all.

Jeannie was driving her regular route one day while chatting with a passenger. Suddenly, her laughter turned to concern when she spotted two little ones walking down the sidewalk with no adult in sight.

Two scared kids

Two small kids, aged five and one – happen to be walking down the sidewalk. From the looks of it, Jeannie could tell that the two were frightened, and it was at this moment that her motherly instincts kicked in and she knew she had to do something fast.

Jeannie immediately stopped the bus and opened the doors to call out to the youngsters, asking them:

“Sweetie, where y’all going? Who are you with?”

Quiet and shy

Their silence urged Jeannie to walk closer to them and ensure the children that she was not a threat, nor even a “stranger” that children aren’t usually allowed to converse with. She asked them what happened and how they ended up where they were.

Lost kids

After ensuring the kids she was someone they could trust, the very caring bus driver brought the two darlings inside the bus to keep them safe and warm.

During that time, Jeannie contacted the police right away so they could determine what had happened. Upon doing so, they discovered that the kids had walked away from their babysitter for whatever reason.

Getting them home

The kids, at least the elder one, knew that a relative was living nearby and while they were making their way over there, they suddenly lost their way.

Fortunately, the police were able to contact the kids’ mom and she showed up to reunite with her babies. A relieved Jeannie told FOX 6:

“If the parent hadn’t showed up, I would still be thinking ‘What happened to those children?’ But once the police showed up and did their part, I felt a lot better.”

She knows what it’s like

Jeannie was more than happy to help out the mother as she knows what it’s like to lose a child. Turns out, her own five-year-old son, more than two decades ago, went missing for over 12 hours while staying at her relative’s house. To a regular person, it doesn’t seem like a long time, but to a mother, losing their child for even a minute would worry them to no end.

A heroic driver

It was all thanks to the kind act of a random stranger who found her boy and returned him home. It’s funny how history repeats itself, except Jeannie was the caring stranger in this story.

Thank goodness she was in the right place at the right time. But more importantly, that she didn’t hesitate to stop and help the children.

This story could have had a much different ending if not for this amazing bus driver.
