What does it take to get a meal at a fast-food restaurant these days?

A hungry homeless man stepped into a Burger King recently on a mission to find out. His goal was to buy whatever he could with the coins he had collected, but unfortunately, his handful of change didn’t amount to much.

The nickels and dimes totaled just 50 cents.

However, the homeless man figured he would get whatever he could to fill his belly.

What happened next was revealed in a viral Facebook post that has since been shared almost 40 thousand times.

“Proud mom moment!” began mom Michelle Resendez.

It’s a story of contagious generosity.

A young Burger King employee named Matthew decided to surprise the hungry homeless man in an incredible act of kindness. He never expected anything in return, but when one act of kindness happens, another often quickly follows.

“Matthew asked him what he would order if he could and the man said anything would help his hunger pains. So Matthew rung him up for a hearty meal and then used his own debit card to pay for the man’s meal,” explained Resendez.

When it comes to eating at fast food restaurants, 50 cents doesn’t go a long way anymore.

Even the price of a simple cheeseburger is typically at least $2 or more. If we’re talking about a full meal, you’re likely looking at spending $8 plus.

The homeless man was looking to make a purchase that day, but he didn’t have the funds required for anything substantial. It’s a situation that many homeless individuals find themselves in every day as they fight to survive.

It’s not easy out there, but luckily, the fast-food employee came to the poor man’s rescue.

The homeless man got a full, hearty meal to enjoy, and meanwhile, Matthew’s mom was incredibly proud. However, the story doesn’t end there.

It turns out, another patron of the establishment was incredibly impressed by Matthew’s generosity as well. They decided to reward him with an act of kindness of their own.

“Apparently a woman watched my son during his random act of kindness,” said Resendez. “Not only did she write the company to let them know about the caring employee they had working for them, she also rewarded my son with a very generous tip!”

To be precise, the tip was a one-hundred dollar bill which Matthew proudly displayed for the camera.

It’s a picture that will warm your heart.

Seeing Matthew’s joyous face right next to Benjamin Franklin’s is enough to make any service industry employee smile. Anyone who has worked in the restaurant business before definitely understands how good it feels to be recognized for hard work and good service.

Resendez, in fact, was so moved by her son, that she decided to share the story on Facebook where it quickly went viral.

“So proud to be his mom and I can pat myself on the back knowing that I’ve played a part in raising this big hearted young man,” said Resendez.

She is an excellent mom, and we’re willing to bet her son has a very bright future ahead of him. The commenters on Facebook agreed as well:

“That’s a really good man you have there keep up the work son God will reward you in ways you never thought could happen,” wrote Gary Jones.

“We need more young men like him in our world you are blessed,” another woman chimed in.

Good people like Matthew deserve to be rewarded, and for once, that’s exactly what happened.
