A diabetic woman in Amarillo, Texas credits a Burger King employee for saving her life when her blood sugar recently crashed.
Rebecca Boening, a former police officer, was driving on the freeway when her blood sugar levels dropped to a dangerously low level. She pulled off of the first exit where she saw a Burger King nearby, however, once she got to the drive-thru, she could hardly place an order. A drop in blood sugar can cause confusion and disorientation; Boening tried her best to explain to the drive-thru worker that she was diabetic. The next thing she knew, Burger King employee, Tina Hardy, was running toward her car.
Hardy was running toward her with a small serving of ice cream. Her husband is diabetic, so she knew exactly what Boening needed.
“Her voice was shaky and she was slurring a little. She told me that she’s diabetic,” remembered Hardy, Chron.com reports. “After I told her the total, I made her ice cream and ran it out to her knowing she was in desperate need of the sugar.”
After delivering a life-saving dose of sugar to Boening, Hardy instructed her to stay put in the Burger King parking lot until she felt well enough to drive. Once she felt better, she returned to the drive-thru window to tell Hardy’s supervisor about her good deed.
Hardy’s act of kindness inspired Boening to post the story on Facebook. It’s been shared over 9,000 times.
“Wednesday afternoon I was driving west on I-40 when my blood sugar dropped to a dangerous level. Luckily a Burger King restaurant was at the upcoming exit. As I stumbled through placing my order I mentioned to the voice on the speaker that I was diabetic and in need of food. Low blood sugar makes it difficult to think or act. I pulled up to the first window in order to pay for my food. I was shocked to see Burger King employee Tina Hardy running toward the front of my car. She squeezed between the front of my car and the building just to bring me a small serving of ice cream. Tina later explained that her husband was also diabetic and she could tell that I needed help. After paying I pulled up to Tina’s window where she gave me my food. She instructed me to park across the driveway so that she could keep an eye on me until I felt better. After eating I waited for a break in business so that I could return to Tina’s window. I then took this picture and spoke with Tina’s supervisor, telling him what she did for me. If you appreciate what this special woman did please share this story. Hopefully Tina Hardy will receive the recognition that she truly deserves from the public and from the big bosses at Burger King.“
Tina Hardy’s compassion and empathy have received praise from thousands of people online.
