The end of high school is always a special moment and has its ups and downs for everyone, especially seniors. Homecoming prom is one thing everyone looks forward to, but some bullies played a mean prank on a high school senior.
They made her believe that she was nominated for homecoming queen and she was absolutely thrilled, only to find out later that she wasn’t nominated for such an honor at all.
Lilian Skinner has been the victim of mean pranks and bullying at her school, but has two best friends who support her through thick and thin. When best friends Naomi Martinez and Anahi Alvarez heard that Lilian was nominated, the two decided to drop out of the nominations entirely and help their friend Lilian win the title of homecoming queen by campaigning for her instead.
All three of them were stunned to see that Lilian wasn’t on the ballot at all. Lilian was sad and disappointed, and that’s something that Naomi and Anahi couldn’t live with.
The two best friends secretly came up with a plan. Both of them campaigned harder than ever before for themselves to win, but the reasoning is absolutely beautiful. The two said that if one of them would win, Lilian would become Homecoming Queen, no matter what. They would relinquish the crown and give it to Lilian ceremoniously.
On the day of the homecoming, Anahi was absolutely thrilled to hear that she had actually won the title and crown – but she was even happier that she could share that moment with Lilian and felt like she absolutely deserved it.
After Anahi was pronounced the winner, a special announcement was quickly made.
“Anahi is honoring a very hard-working senior with her crown. We would like to announce Lillian Skinner, please step up and receive this honor.”
Ellen DeGeneres heard about their heartwarming story and friendship and invited them all over to the studio of her popular television show.
Lilian then told that her mom taught her to treat people with kindness, instead of anger. She says that the most important thing about a person and their intentions lies in their heart. “You’re amazing,” Ellen says.
Ellen then gave all three of them the title of “Ellen Homecoming Queen” with an appropriate crown, a coveted spot on the wall of Ellen’s favorite people on the show and a whopping $10,000 check each.
A beautiful surprise, but an even more beautiful friendship!
