Being a kid is supposed to be the happiest, most relaxed and carefree time of your life.

We’ve all heard people say that they wish they could be a kid again – and that means they were lucky enough to have a happy childhood.

Some kids don’t get the luxury of friendships and fun, especially if they’re being bullied.

Sadly, there are so many opportunities for mean kids to pick on other children nowadays. If it isn’t name-calling and physical bullying, they can cyberbully over the internet.

We all know what a drastic effect bullying can have on a child’s self-esteem, and for parents, it’s heartbreaking.

You want nothing but the best for your child, but how can you help them when they’re being bullied at school? Positive reinforcement and empathetic listening can only go so far.

This is the story of an 11-year-old boy who had to put up with bullying for years.

It’s something that no child should have to go through, and understandably, it had left Phil Mick feeling nervous to start his first day of sixth grade when summer was up.

Phil’s mom, Tammy Mick of Auburn, Indiana, said that Phil had told her he didn’t want to return to class because the bullying had got so bad.

Speaking to ABC News, she recalled:

“He was hiding it. He came home with bumps and bruises. He said he wanted to end his life – and I stepped up as parent and tried to get things taken care of.”

By “get things taken care of”, Tammy didn’t just speak to Phil’s teachers or the moms of his bullies.

Oh, no – she had something much bigger and better up her sleeve.

On Tuesday, his first day of school, Phil showed up on the back of a motorbike – surrounded by 50 other bikers on motorcycles.

The message was clear: around here, bullying isn’t tolerated. This boy is protected. Don’t try it again.

Brent Warfield, sales manager of KDZ Motorcycle Sales & Service and a friend of Tammy, arranged the whole thing after hearing what Phil had been through.

He said:

“When you hear an 11-year-old-kid talking about getting kicked and picked on all because they don’t have as much money or wear nice clothes, being overweight and then having an 11-year-old son myself, it reached down deep and hit me.”

After putting a call out on Facebook, Brent was overwhelmed with responses from local bikers.

On the morning of the big day, more than 50 bikers arrived at Phil’s house, armed with new clothes and school supplies.

Tammy said Phil’s motorcycle ride had left him “ecstatic”, adding:

“I wanted to cry, it was so heartwarming. Every day, he talks about that ride. He said it was amazing. [To] Brent and all the riders who came, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank them. They made my son very happy.”

But the bikers involved simply stood up for the right thing. As one biker rightly said:

“A little boy should not have to go to school and worry about being beat on, picked on.”

If only every bullied kid could have their own army of tough biker men to keep them protected.
