The first day of school can be daunting for children.
They’re entering a new place all alone, without their parents.
They’re also encountering both adults and children that they’ve never met before.
This is one of the first places children learn how to socialize and make friends. And it doesn’t always go so well. Even the youngest children can find it hard to make friends or be bullied by classmates.
But one clever child decided he would make things a lot easier for his fellow classmates.
Six-year-old Blake Rajahn decided that he would invite all of his fellow classmates to be his friend on his first day of school. So, he wore a shirt on his first day at North Fayette Elementary School in Georgia that said: “I will be your friend.”
The boy came up with the t-shirt idea after his mom, Nikki Rajahn who owns a personalization business called Unfading Adornments, told him that she’d make a shirt for him with anything on it for his first day of school.
She figured he’d ask for a sports-themed t-shirt but was exceptionally proud when her son requested an “I will be your friend” shirt.
“I have to brag on my son. I told him that as a back to school gift, I will make him any shirt he would like,” Nikki wrote on Facebook. “It could have anything- a basketball theme, football, etc. which are all his favorites. He thought a while and said, “Will you please make me a shirt that says: ‘I will be your friend’ for all the kids who need a friend to know that I am here for them?’ Never underestimate your kid’s heart for others! I love my sweet Blake! #stopbullying”
Blake’s past may have had something to do with his shirt choice.
You see, Blake had been bullied in the past.
“I want to make sure that kids that are bullied know they have a friend already,” Blake told WXIA.
Nikki posted a photo of her son in his shirt on Facebook and that post ended up going viral.
It was shared more than 9,600 times.
“What a beautiful Boy your Blake is! You are not bragging ,your are sharing awesomeness story. Love is alive, what a inspiration for everyone. The world needs to see that their is or should say be reminded of such asks of kindness,” wrote a commenter on Facebook.
People just loved the t-shirt and asked Nikki to make simliar ones. She said she’s sold several since the Facebook post went viral.
Nikki’s shirts, tank tops, and sweatshirts are selling for $25 to $40 here.
A portion of the proceeds are being donated to Real Life Center, a local church charity that serves seniors, offer financial counseling, and funds food pantries.
When Blake found how his shirt was selling and that so many people loved it he said: “Oh good! Now more and more people are going to have more and more friends!”
Nikki said he was in awe that he was inspiring others.
“He is just so flattered so many want to be his twin too,” Rajahn said.
