Every day, millions of people go about their business without a care in the world. Often, that entails nothing more than walking across a parking lot at a local park. For one family in Minnesota, that’s exactly how their day started but it wouldn’t end anything as they imagined.
Visiting a Chippewa Park
One summer day, a 23-month-old little girl named Kenzie Moran was making her way across the parking lot in Brandon along with her mother, Catherine, and her siblings. Nothing out of the ordinary was going on. But then out of nowhere, tragedy struck.
A horrific accident
Without any warning, Catherine saw something happen that she wishes she could unsee. Jason Borstrad, a 22-year-old man, accidentally hit the small child with his vehicle.
That was bad enough but things got much worse.
You see, after striking Kenzie, Jason’s minivan began to roll forward. As a result, the little girl became trapped beneath it. The situation had just turned dire.
Sheer panic
As Kenzie’s mom told WDAZ,
“I was scared. She’s my baby. As I saw her face, when she was pinned, I knew right there I was going to do everything possible to get her out.”
Momma bear
Catherine went on to say that at that moment, “Mommy mode kicked in.” Can you imagine seeing something like that happen to your child or any kid for that matter? There’s no question you’d feel the same way.
We’re on the way home! Thanks for all the prayers I love you all we appreciate it! <3

Nearby help
It just so happened that at the time Kenzie became trapped beneath the minivan, two brothers who were close by heard screams. Dustin and Casey Skinner raced toward the minivan. Instead of just standing around to gawk, they both immediately sprang into action.
Rushing to her aid
Within seconds, the Skinner brothers were next to the vehicle. Just like the Moran family, they too had been enjoying time out with their family. As the saying goes, “they were in the right place at the right time.”
A true miracle
What Casey and Dustin did next was nothing short of a miracle. With adrenaline racing through their bodies and determined to help the little girl, they managed to do the unthinkable. Using their combined strength, the brothers lifted the van off the ground just enough so someone could free Kenzie.
It wasn’t over yet
Although this precious little girl was pulled out from under the minivan, the ordeal wasn’t over. Being so tiny and the vehicle so large, she needed medical attention and fast. The amazing thing is that despite having been pinned under the driver’s side front wheel for 20 minutes, she was still alive.
The brothers chime in
When asked about their heroic measure, the Skinner brothers were quite humble. Casey told the Brainerd Dispatch:
“It was just unbelievable. It could have been one of my nephews.”
Casey went on to say, “It was so scary. I can’t imagine what the mom is going through.” However, Catherine was also thankful since had it not been for these brothers, her little girl probably wouldn’t have made it.
She survived
Although the entire experience was horrific, Kenzie is one tough little girl. Even with everything she endured, this child remained happy. After being airlifted to Saint Paul’s Gillette Children’s Hospital, doctors reattached her toe but other than that, amazingly, she was “okay.”

It took Kenzie a while to heal but she did. When it was all over, her mom commented on her Facebook page that her daughter is the: “strongest lil lady in the world. She has blown me away … I’m so proud of her.” In all honesty, most children in this situation might not have come out of it as well as Kenzie did.
