In a tale of unexpected generosity, a California woman’s canceled wedding became a “Ball for All” for a special community.
The bride chose to call off the nuptials after “new information” came to light about her betrothed.
The only problem was that the wedding (and everything that follows) was only 2 weeks away.
And, of course, the reception was nonrefundable.
Loathe to let $15K and all her planning go to waste, she looked for the opportunity in the situation and came up with the perfect plan.
Rather than letting the lavish event go to waste, the bride chose a path of extraordinary kindness.
She donated the entire reception to Parents Helping Parents (PHP), a nonprofit based in San Jose.
PHP is dedicated to supporting children and adults with special needs, along with their families, a mission that had once directly benefited her own family.

PHP, established in 1976, has been a pillar of support for families navigating the challenges of disabilities.
From providing assistive technology to explaining complex educational rights, PHP’s services are comprehensive and tailored to individual needs.
Their work spans from early intervention and school support to adulthood and independent living, making them a lifeline for many.

The donation was a surprise to PHP’s executive director, Maria Daane, who had never encountered such a gesture.
“I’ve never heard of anyone ever calling a nonprofit and saying, ‘We want to donate a $15,000 party in two weeks to you,’” she said.
This unprecedented act of kindness was a first in her career.
As the day of the celebration approached, PHP extended invitations to the families they assist.
The event, held at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Gilroy, was a much-anticipated gathering.
A hundred people RSVPed, eager to partake in the festivities.
The bride’s donation included everything from the reception – food, fireworks, and even a photo booth.
The ballroom at the club was transformed into a space of joy and celebration for children, families, caretakers, and PHP staff.
The guests, adorned in formalwear and festive sweaters, reveled in the party’s offerings.
They danced to popular tunes like the “Cha Cha Slide,” captured memories in the photo booth, and were treated to a dazzling fireworks display.
Daane expressed her delight in hosting such an event for the families. Liz Schwartz, a guest who attended with her daughter, shared her appreciation:
“It’s wonderful to be included and to have this celebration of who our community is.”
This sentiment echoed throughout the room, as the event became a symbol of inclusion and joy.
