Bride hops on a plane so she can share first dance with her sick grandpa
Natalie knew her grandpa was heartbroken he wouldn't be able to dance with her at the wedding. That's why she brought the joyous occasion to him instead.
That was put to the test by one bride who had to make other plans when her grandpa was no longer able to attend her wedding.
Despite the setback, she didn’t allow that to stop her from sharing a special moment with him.
Natalie was in Virginia and her grandfather was in Florida at the time of her wedding.
But that was no problem. Although her grandfather was not able to physically be at her wedding, Natalie figured out a workaround.
Although her grandfather had initially planned on being at her wedding, he was unable to at the last minute.
He suffered a stroke two weeks before her wedding and was unable to travel.
Natalie decided to recreate her wedding just for her grandpa.
Packing up all her wedding gear, Natalie hopped on a flight to him.
Doing her makeup in the airport and carrying her wedding dress in a pink garment bag, Natalie was ready to make the moment special.
She documented the whole trip in a video that she later posted to Facebook for family and friends to see.
Her grandfather, Nelson, also dressed up.
It’s clear that Natalie and Nelson took this moment seriously.
While Natalie came prepared in her full wedding gown, hair, and makeup, Nelson wore fancy clothes of his own.
They kept the party at home, but even dancing around Nelson’s living room, it looked like they had a meaningful time.
The two were all smiles as they swayed and twirled.
This was all so that her grandpa would have a chance to dance with her.
They called this Natalie’s “First Dance.” Rather than the traditional first dance that happens at a wedding reception, this one took place in her grandpa’s home.
“For months he’d been so excited to dance with me on my wedding night and I’m just so happy that I was able to give him that experience…I don’t get to see him very often so it truly was a special day.”
For the people who know her, this dedication to her grandfather’s happiness is classic Natalie.
Natalie put a lot of effort into making sure her grandpa felt cherished and a part of the festivities of her wedding day.
You might think that most newlyweds are focused on their honeymoon and settling into their new life, but Natalie would not have had it any other way.
On her original Facebook post, many of the people vouch for her:
“Natalie… you have always been a bright light with such a kind soul. This is such a sweet moment. Thanks for sharing. And congratulations on your wedding. I wish you many years of happiness “
Some people who are complete strangers to Natalie and her grandfather were also impressed by her:
“I saw this on Fox News. You have no idea who I am, but as a grandpa, let me tell you, you did good. What you did speaks volumes about the way you were brought up by your parents and about your character. Good job.”
It’s so important to spend all the time you can with your loved ones, but how many of us can say we would do this?
Natalie went the extra mile to be there for her grandpa (800 to be exact).
Although we all know how important it is to spend time with our loved ones, sometimes it’s easy to take them for granted.
We should follow Natalie’s lead and try to do what we can to create special memories with people, no matter the extra work.
