Sometimes, things don’t always go as planned. For these two lovebirds, bad luck couldn’t have come at a worse time.
Dulce Gonzalez and her husband Ariel were planning to have their wedding ceremony on the beach, but a storm totally ruined their beautiful moment.
The day started off quite sunny and the bride, groom and wedding guests were all getting ready to start. However, it didn’t take long before dark clouds started to form above Pascagoula, Mississippi, with thunder and lightning following shortly after.
The rainfall was absolutely massive and it quite literally drowned any hope that the beach ceremony could continue.
Dulce and her husband quickly took shelter in her mom’s car as they watched the weather abruptly change.
“I was trying to hold my tears,” the bride said to The Washington Post. “I’m about to have a panic attack, I’m asking my mom, ‘What am I gonna do?’ “
Suddenly, a stranger approached the car and made an incredible offer.
The woman, who wasn’t holding an umbrella and was already drenched, offered them her home as a place for the wedding. Everyone was welcome and both the ceremony and party could be held there.
Cynthia and her husband Shannon live on the beachside and have been eagerly watching the whole wedding preparation. They were just as gutted as the couple themselves when they noticed the storm was about to ruin their wedding.
The kind woman has seen dozens of marriages and ceremonies on the beach over the years, but she’s never seen one canceled due to the bad weather – and she wasn’t about to start now.
“The bride’s mother started crying at that point and [the bride] said ‘thank you’ and she had tears in her eyes,” Cynthia recalls.
As you can imagine, the couple was totally overwhelmed.
“We saw all the guests in their cars waiting (and hoping) for the rain to stop. Shannon and I decided to invite them to have the wedding in our home,” Cynthia wrote on her Facebook page.
Cynthia then ran towards her house and made some preparations for an impromptu wedding ceremony and party. Funnily enough, the kind woman needed a bit of time to clean up the house, as things can get a little bit messy with lots of grandchildren around.
As they’re quite a large family, they also have plenty of tables and chairs lying around in a storage room, so it wasn’t a problem at all to seat most of the guests. Others didn’t mind to stand or to share a chair with others. A piano and a homemade altar were quickly found as well.
Cynthia organized everything as “if it was [for] my own daughter”, she said. About an hour later, everyone was able to get inside and the ceremony could finally begin. And even though the relocation was unexpected, the home was absolutely perfect.
“They had everything set as if we actually planned it,” Gonzalez said. “It was perfect. I told my husband that [the Strunks] were little angels that God sent us.”
The beach holds a sentimental value to both of them, as their relationship began there.
Luckily, the house gave them a sight on the stormy beach, so they still had their dream of having a “sort of beach wedding,” as Dulce said.
As for Cynthia and her husband, they faded away to the background and let all the attention shine on the two lovebirds. After the ceremony, Dulce’s family gave them a very heartfelt ‘thank you’ in a speech.
“The father was just so appreciative and they were just such gracious, wonderful people,” the woman told. “We were just happy to do it — and to us it was no big deal.”
After this incredible day, Cynthia posted this incredible story on her Facebook page. It quickly went viral and she received hundreds of comments, and she mesmerized by the huge response.
“It was a wonderful experience,” she posted. “The wedding party was so gracious and appreciative, and we were thankful that we could offer our home.”
“I can say that it was the fastest wedding we have ever set up (ten minutes). It was the cheapest. And it was the quickest to clean up. We highly recommend impromptu weddings.”
As for the newlyweds, they’ve kept in touch and regularly give Cynthia and Shannon a visit.
For example, they recently brought them flowers for Fourth of July celebrations and they’re already planning to cook some Spanish food for them.
Cynthia does have one little request for the couple:
“I did tell them that when they have their first baby that I fully expect them to bring the baby to the house and tell them where it all began,” she said with a smile.
The bride couldn’t agree more that it would be a great idea!
It looks like these two couples definitely have something to look forward to. What an amazing wedding story and an incredible act of kindness.
