As parents, we feel equally happy and excited upon seeing our kids open their presents.
That is why we put so much effort into preparing birthday presents for our kids.
For Michelle Novak, celebrating her son’s birthday was a top priority.
In fact, she planned everything. They went to Lincoln with her family to celebrate the little boy’s birthday. It was a blast!
Everyone had a wonderful time.
When they returned to their hotel room last Friday, Novak locked her son’s presents on a toolbox in their truck.
Saturday morning, they all went outside. Dean was excited about his toys, but they were all shocked when they realized that their truck was nowhere to be found.
They found out that their truck was stolen.
As the whole family was returning home, they noticed their truck. It was in a Wal-Mart parking lot.
They immediately called the Lincoln Police.
Officer Urbanek and Officer Rutz were able to retrieve the stolen truck and returned it to the Novaks. Unfortunately, all of Dean’s presents were gone.
The family was relieved because they got their truck back.
However, they were saddened that Dean’s presents were now missing. His eyes were sad, and this broke his family’s heart.
What they didn’t know was that Officer Urbanek knew how much those presents meant to a six-year-old boy.
Despite losing his presents, Dean felt better quickly. He said he treasured the memories that he spent with his family.
It was a day well-spent for him. A day of swimming, mini golf, and museum visits. He knew what his family felt, and he showed them that he was grateful for their efforts.
Though, the officers felt different. They, too, felt bad about returning the truck without the child’s gifts.
Then Officer Urbanek had an idea. He wanted to give little Dean a birthday present, and he knew how he would pull off this surprise.
That day, Officer Urbanek contacted the Novak family.
The officer shared that he felt sorry for the little boy and he, along with his colleagues, wanted to surprise Dean.
The kind-hearted Officer Urbanek and Officer Rutz gathered money and bought Dean presents.
Sgt. Robinson was also happy about the plan that he provided the basketball gift for the little boy.
Last July 11, Officer Urbanek rang the doorbell at the Novak residence and gave Dean his new gifts.
Of course, Dean was overjoyed!
He didn’t expect that someone would give him another set of gifts. His smile filled the room and warmed everyone’s hearts.
KLKN found out that by the time Officer Urbanek bought the gifts, he was already close to completing a 24-hour shift.
He didn’t mind if he was tired or sleepy.
Officer Urbanek thought of that little boy and he was able to deliver the gifts to him. It was all worth it.
“Officer Urbanek didn’t mention his kind actions to anyone, shared Lincoln Police to KLKN. “(he) did all this out of the kindness of his heart to help ensure a little boy’s birthday wasn’t completely ruined.”
He’s such a kind police officer with a soft heart for kids. We definitely need more people like Officer Urbanek.
“I just want to let everyone know how blessed we are to have this officer drive from Lincoln to Fairbury with no sleep to… bring my son some gifts,” Novak shared with everyone.
