9-year-old Malachi from Sumter, South Carolina, was hailed as a hero after saving his elderly neighbor’s life one day.
Allen Clemmons, who lives close to Malachi’s home, was working on his Mustang convertible at the time. He had used a jack and blocks to hold it up, but, as he was trying to remove the transmission, the car slid and it fell right on the man’s body.
Although the Mustang fell on Clemmon’s side, which made the man’s injury less severe, it still got him trapped underneath.
“I was having a really hard time breathing with it on top of me, even though I was kind of on my side,” Clemmons told WIS News at the time.
And, while he started yelling and asking for help from the very first moment, it seemed to be all in vain.
Clemmon’s family was out running errands, and his house was not very close to any other house in the neighborhood so that someone could hear him and rush to help him.
The elderly man was stuck underneath the heavy car for an hour and a half, and that’s when he felt he wouldn’t make it.
He had been crying for help for too long and nobody could hear him, the car was too heavy and he was getting short of breath. All he had left was his faith. He could only pray for a miracle.
“I asked God to help me, to give me one more holler and send an angel by my way,” Clemmons said. “The last holler before I give up.”
And that’s when the schoolboy heard him. He was playing outside when he heard the man’s cries, and he rushed towards the neighbor’s home to see what was happening.
“He was saying something like he was stuck but I didn’t know what he meant,” Malachi told WIS.
Soon, the boy approached the man’s backyard, and he realized what was going on.
Luckily, he knew how to use a car jack, and with the man’s help, he lifted the car up and saved him.
As the 9-year-old boy explained, his uncle had taught him how to use a jack- and thanks to this skill, he was able to save a man’s life that day.
After making sure the man was safe, he ran back to his aunt’s house, where he asked for help.
The injured man was taken to the hospital, where the doctors treated him for six broken ribs and a fractured pelvis, while he also suffered a shoulder injury.
The man, who would soon make a full recovery as his doctors said at the time, felt forever grateful to the young boy who went above and beyond to save his life.
“I don’t think I would have survived another 30 minutes,” he said. “It was getting really hard to breathe. He is truly my guardian angel.”
