Ah, chores. It’ll probably be the thing that most often causes trouble inside the home, even though some kids actually seem to like it. Most parents consider it to be a useful and important part of growing up and childhood; helping around with some daily tasks can definitely build some work ethic that will undoubtedly have its effects later on in life.
Whether it’s tidying the place up, helping to cook, or working in the yard – most children definitely had to assist their parents when they were younger.
Little boy Brian Kelly actually loved doing yard work and hanging out there with his dad!
It was some sweet bonding time for Brian and his dad, and it never felt like a chore. These two certainly must have a lot of good memories there.
Sadly, Brian’s father had to go on deployment to Syria, and now Brian had no partner to do the yard chores with.
It was quite annoying for the little boy. Not only did he have to miss his father for a long period of time, but he also didn’t really quite know what to do with his days anymore.
Then it suddenly struck him when he noticed the neighbors working in their yard.
He simply asked the neighboring family, the Cravens, if they would like some assistance in the garden.
It was an absolutely sweet and heartfelt request from the little boy, who expected nothing in return. He just wanted to have some company so he wouldn’t be alone all the time and wanted to get his hands dirty. Little Brian was sad and lonely, but he figured this might help fill the void just a little bit.
Of course, the neighbor Dean simply couldn’t refuse such a sweet and touching request!
In fact, Dean said that he could even come whenever he wanted, every single day. These two are now doing some yard work and with four hands combined, they’re definitely making progress. Dean really enjoys his time with Brian too – the man is a father of three daughters and sees it as a chance to do some rare “father-son” activities.
It all started with working in the garden, but sooner rather than later, these two were playing basketball and golf!
Of course, nobody will ever be able to replace daddy, but Brian finds great comfort in knowing that he’s not alone. He’s also picked up a thing or two and can’t wait to show his dad all of his new and improved gardening skills when he gets back home from his deployment.
One of Dean’s daughters actually took some pictures of the two together and posted it on her personal Twitter page. Little did she know that the tweets would go viral!
“This is our little neighbor”, she wrote. “His dad is deployed in Syria and every day he comes out to the door asking to work with our dad. Appreciate today.”
Twitter absolutely loved this heartwarming newfound friendship between neighbors and couldn’t praise both of them enough.
“Nothing like a good neighbor to count on. Proud to know them,” one of the other neighbors responded to her.
“This is greatness! Dads rock our worlds!” another user commented.
As for Brian’s mom, she couldn’t be more thankful to Dean and truly believes that a positive role model will help her young boy while dad is away.
We can only hope that Brian’s father will return home from deployment soon! In the meantime, these kind neighbors will definitely look after each other.
