Three kids; one incredibly patriotic act.

When Amanda Reallan went out to pick out her kids that day, we bet she didn’t expect to witness an incredible scene like this one.

It seemed like an ordinary afternoon in Hayden Meadows Elementary School.

While waiting for her kids, she saw three fifth-grade cub scouts taking down the flag.

She saw that the kids were struggling to fold the flag and not let it touch the ground. It may seem like a lost cause, given their height and the size of the flag.

But one of the boys did something remarkable, and Amanda captured that moment.

One of the boys lay down underneath the flag to make sure it doesn’t touch the ground.

Such a patriotic act!

According to the U.S. Code Chapter 1, Section 8 under Title 4: Flag and Seal, Seat of Government, and the States:

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

Furthermore, Section 8b specifies that:

The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

And these boys merely want to uphold the U.S. Code.

You wouldn’t expect them to show their respect for the flag at their young age to this extent. But they did, and that’s why it went viral.

Amanda’s photo of the boys currently has more than 34,000 shares and 19,000 likes/reactions.

In an interview with KHQ-TV, Jack LeBreck said that what he did was out of respect.

He told the news team that he and his classmates were dealing with the nation’s flag and that to let it touch the ground is to disrespect the country.

He also gave credit to their school’s custodian, Mr. Mac McCarty.

Fondly called ‘Mr. Mac’ by the school kids, McCarty is a retired veteran who served the Air Force for 20 years. He is also responsible for assigning who gets to put up and take down the flag on their campus. And that day, the three boys just made him proud.

He told U.S. Today:

“What they did yesterday was obviously all on them. They did themselves proud, they did their families proud, they did their school proud, and I am very proud of them,” he said with pride.

The other boys, Naylan Tuttle and Casey Dolan, also acted with great honor.

The boys thought that putting down the flag and the patriotic act they’ve shown was an honor for them. They also hoped that what they did shows how much they honor and respect their family members who served in the military.

While people applaud the boys for what they did, some were still skeptical and thought it was staged. But Amanda came in to vouch for the boys.

She clarified that the boys had no idea she took the photo.
