When it comes to hairstyles, there are few more striking than the mullet. In fact, a mullet is a statement piece. You don’t rock the mullet without knowing exactly what you are doing. It also requires some serious confidence.

For one little boy, the mullet was the perfect hairstyle to draw attention to a cause that was close to his heart. It seemed to have worked!

Allan Baltz is an 11-year-old boy from Brookland, Arkansas, who started growing a serious mullet during quarantine about a year ago.

Allan happened to have heard that there was an official USA Mullet Championship, although he wasn’t all that interested at first. When his mom told him that there was a large prize pool, however, Allan changed his tune a bit!

“Until he found out there was money involved to which he quickly said ‘Well, I could do it and give the money to kids in foster care,” Lesli told KAIT8.

For Allan, the prize money meant a lot more to him than most other kids.

When he realized there was prize money involved, things got serious. While most kids would be concerned about what toys they were gonna buy or the newest video game, Allan had a different vision. In fact, he wanted to give all the money away to foster kids who needed it.

The cause was especially close to his heart since Allan himself was adopted from foster care back in 2015 (along with his twin sister), and he knew how much the prize money could mean.

Since his adoption, Allan has found ways each year to give back – this year was just going to have a bit of flair!

“They’ve done diapers and wipes for birthday gifts instead of gifts from friends for several years and so this is who he is and it’s just really cool that other people get to see it too,” said Lesli.

With some quick work with the scissors, Allan started to grow out his new hairstyle. When the family rolled up to the competition, Allan was one of the best contenders there. The Kids Division of the mullet competition had some stiff competition, but Allan knew that he was going to take home the gold!

The prize for the competition was $2,500, but his entire friend group and neighborhood pitched in to raise even more money!

With his family and friends behind him and a lot of cash on the table, Allan walked into the competition… and won!!! Taking home the prize money AND the money donated by his friends, Allan was able to make an incredible donation to the foster care system to provide for kids who needed it the most.

Allan selflessly donated to Together We Foster and Project Zero. According to KAIT8, he has raised over $5K for kids in foster care (which includes the prize money he took home).

This is one of those stories that shows just how powerful the will of a child can be!

Allan received over 25,000 votes in the competition and made a massive difference in his community. Who knows, maybe it’s time for the mullet to make a comeback! In honor of Allan, of course.
