We all know kids love candy; it’s a fact. And it’s also the reason why Halloween is so fun for them. On the other hand, however, we also know that kids have very little self-control, especially around gooey, yummy treats— a fact which makes supervision fairly necessary. This Halloween, however, after leaving an unattended bowl of candy outside, one Idaho resident was shocked by the actions of an 11-year-old boy.

Jesse Robertson, a resident of Oxbow Lane in Idaho, didn’t really expect the trick-or-treaters who came to his house to only take one or two treats. With an unsupervised candy dish and the thrill of the holiday egging them on, he pretty much knew that someone would end up stealing the stash.

Robertson, however, would be out trick-or-treating with his two daughters and wife, so in his eyes, an unattended bowl was the next best thing.

Robertson left the bowl on his porch with a sign that said, “Do a trick, take a treat! Only one or two please, you’re on camera”, and proceeded to go out with his family.

When the family got back, they weren’t surprised to see the candy dish had been emptied.

Curious as to how long the candy had lasted, they decided to watch some of the security camera footage. It didn’t take long for Robertson to identify the child who had taken every piece of the candy— but what he saw next definitely shocked and surprised him. Soon after the first young boy raids the bowl, another approaches the Robertsons’ home. The second boy is 11-year-old Hayden Chapple, dressed as the character Eleven from the popular Netflix series Stranger Things.

The video shows Chapple approaching the Robertsons’. When he notices the bowl is empty, he starts walking off. Suddenly, however, he spins around and returns— filling the empty bowl with treats of his own.

Chapple described the incident to East Idaho News, saying, “I told my mom that the kids were going to be so disappointed because there’s no candy in there. She told me I could put some of my own candy in the bowl and I thought that would be cool. ”

“I didn’t see the camera,” he continues. “I thought they wrote the sign to stop people and I thought that was clever. I just wanted to do a nice thing.”

Robertson, stunned by Chapple’s kindhearted deed, posted the footage online where it quickly went viral.

He said, “The kid in the video did something that would surprise just about anybody these days. So I thought everyone should see it.”
