Not all of us can afford new clothes, books, shoes, and phones every year.
Some families are struggling to put food on the table. They work multiple jobs just to be able to feed their family. Being able to go to school is already a huge deal for these kids.
Of course, when they do, they can’t help but feel sad when they can’t buy their school necessities.
A different kind of courage
They can’t tell their parents because they don’t want to add to the burden of their family.
So, having the strength to ask for help from friends takes a lot of guts.
One student, Jaheim, was going through this hardship. Little did he know, a friend of his was only waiting for the right moment to surprise him.
“Can someone buy me a pair of shoes? I don’t like mine and I wear a 10-11,” said Jaheim.
He didn’t want to sound needy, but it was something that he needed to voice out.
Sofi Cruz Turner was listening.
For the past few weeks, she had been thinking of helping him. She wanted to do something special for Jaheim.
Sofi and Jaheim go way back.
According to Sofi’s viral Facebook post, she has known Jaheim since 3rd grade. They were both in Mrs. Dragotta’s class.
Sofi said that Jaheim has always been studious and smart.
Jaheim would always submit his homework on time, he never skips his classes, and he would even offer help to his teachers.
Most of all, Jaheim is always a cheerful kid despite life’s hardships.
Sofi wanted to do something nice.
Since she had gotten a job, she had been working really hard to earn extra money. Luckily, she saved some money and she bought something for her friend Jaheim.
Sofi said her mom and grandfather even helped her.
The next day, we see the clip of Sofi coming to Jaheim while the latter was busy writing.
She began her touching speech, but it seemed like Jaheim was too shy to look her in the eye.
Then she really caught his attention.
Sofi asked her friend to open the bag, and he did. He pulled out a shoebox and inside were black Adidas shoes, in his size.
“Oh! You got me Adidas! Thank you,” said Jaheim.
But there was more.
She then told him to check the bag and when he did, he pulled out socks and shirts.
Jaheim was silent.
He was clearly trying to keep it all in. He even gave a sigh. But when Sofi hugged him, he gave in and just cried.
“Seeing him crying was very emotional because I could see that he didn’t know what to think. I am so thankful to know that giving Jahiem those shoes made him so happy and allowed me to realize that giving someone something so special can be life-changing,” Sofi posted.
The post contained a touching video and photos of them. You can even see Jaheim wearing the shoes Sofi gave him.
“Love you Jahiem, with everything in me,” Sofi ended her post with a loving note.
We don’t have to give expensive gifts; we just have to give something from our hearts.
