As a kid, you are taught not to talk with strangers.
This is because of the potential threat that they may pose.
However, most strangers aren’t bad people, they’re just… people.
And for one kid, this was clearly what he thought when he saw a man eating by himself in a restaurant.
Two-year-old Brekken Wadford went with his family to eat out at a restaurant in Magee, MS.
He was having a fine time until he saw Darius West eating all alone at the table next to them.
At that point, young Brekken started to cry, begging his mother to let him sit with Darius while he was eating.
His mother, of course, told him that he couldn’t sit with the stranger and that if he didn’t start behaving himself then he was going to have to wait in the car.
As she got up to take him there, Darius stepped in.
He told her that it would be fine if little Brekken sat with him while he ate.
Brekken immediately stopped crying and hopped up into the seat across from Darius.
The two of them preceded to talk as if they had known each other for their entire lives.
Brekken’s mom, Amy, snapped a photo of the two of them and posted it to Facebook.
The photo has garnered plenty of attention on social media.
It has racked up more than 100k likes and has been shared nearly as many times.
People have been loving the photo and saying all kinds of nice things.
Elzie Monroe III said this:
“Darius, I don’t know you but feel as if I do know you, same as Brekken felt. Much love my man. May you be safe and blessed in all you interactions.”
Nicole Milton had this to say:
“Children have a gift that most of us loose as we grow older. He could have sensed something everone else was blinded to who knows the man could have been going thru or thinking on something that your son helped lighten. Your son may have been the blessing for him. You never know. Beautiful either way it goes.”
This story is a nice reminder that not every stranger is a bad person.
There are more good souls in this world than there are bad.
Sometimes it just takes the innocence of a child to remind us of that fact.
WJTV caught up with Darius and Brekken and the two of them still seem to enjoy each other’s company.
Brekken sat on Darius’s lap for nearly the entire interview.
Brekken’s parents spoke about how thankful they were that Darius was kind enough to allow Brekken to sit with him and tell him stories while he ate.
They were amazed at the fact that the two of them shared chips and salsa and acted like best friends for the entire meal.
