You never know when your children are watching and learning from you, and they often pick up on emotions from the people around them. One little boy was recently overcome with emotion while he sang his new baby sister a lullaby.
His mother was videotaping his song when she caught the tears too.
She asks him,
“What’s wrong with your eyes?”
The little boy replies,
“I’m crying ‘cuz it’s good.”
When his mom tells him that he’s going to make her cry too, he repeats himself saying,
“I’m crying ‘cuz it’s good. It’s so beautiful, like this, with Ellis.”
His mom was hesitant to share the video, but she wanted the world to see the love between siblings.
She posted the video online with this caption:
“Although I selfishly keep beautiful moments like this off of Facebook and cherish them privately, today I accidentally captured one of the most amazing moments on video. I don’t just see a big brother loving his baby sister, I see the *beauty* of our story he refers to. To know my 4-year-old is able to feel deep emotion was breathtaking. His love and thankfulness for Ellis were almost palpable. This can only be described as true love…”
There’s a reason the family gets so emotional when it comes to baby Ellis.
She had a very rough beginning, and there were times when they weren’t sure if they were going to be able to bring her home. Her mom explained,
“She was born without a heartbeat. As they worked to resuscitate her, my heart stopped, and I slipped into a coma. 3 days later I woke up and met my tiny fighter. Ellis spent 2 long months in the NICU fighting for her life. Kashton, her big brother, was only allowed to see her once in the beginning when we weren’t sure if she would survive, and then once at the end of her stay when we knew she was coming home.”
The little boy wanted to see his baby sister so badly and wanted to be able to spend time with her that he couldn’t help but get teary-eyed when it was possible.
He appreciates the little moments with her because even at a young age, he knows that he is happy to have her.
His mom added,
“I feel like my son was overcome with emotion because he could finally lay next to his baby sister and hold her hand. He had witnessed so much in those two months between myself and his sister. I can only imagine this was a moment of sweet relief that we were all together again.”
Baby Ellis seems to be doing fine now, and she is growing and learning new things each day.
Thanks to her big brother, she will always have someone to watch over her and protect her. He isn’t afraid to get emotional or let her know that he loves her.
We could all learn a few things from Kashton. Most kids wouldn’t understand the things going on around them.
He almost lost his mom and his sister, and when he was able to get them both home, he was determined to spend as much time with them as possible. He never thinks twice about telling them he loves them, and it’s clear he will always be by his sister’s side, whether she needs a lullaby to help put her to sleep or a ride to school when they get older. The two have such a strong bond already, that they will likely be inseparable as they get older.
Ellis is a lucky little girl. Not only did she pull through after such a rough birth, but she also has a family that loves her and a brother who isn’t afraid to show it. What a great video.
