Unfortunately, the experience of a woman alone at a bar isn’t always the most pleasant thing in the world. The odds of unwanted attention are way higher and rejecting someone’s advances doesn’t turn out all that well. It’s for those reasons and more that women often cite their feelings of discomfort in those sorts of establishments.
It can be very uncomfortable for a lady just looking to have a good time!
It’s gotten so bad that there are even secret words and codes that girls have started using to keep themselves safe in those environments. Things like “asking for Angela” and others can help ladies who have had a run-in with a truly creepy dude.
While many of the dudes out there are downright appalling, there are some awesome stories like this one.
A recent story has hit social media (you might have even seen it!) that involves a woman getting a drink at a bar in Florida. The woman (whose Twitter handle is @trinityallie) was at the bar when a man was hitting on her and clearly not taking a hint.
Trinity wasn’t interested but the man kept on stepping up his advances.
It’s when things hit this stage that many women begin to feel nervous. The man began brushing up on her and getting WAY too close for comfort. It wasn’t “cute” or “funny” and he was making Trinity and the friend she was with incredibly nervous.
The bartender working that night was Max Gutierrez and he saw something was up.
Max works at the No Vacancy bar in St. Petersburg and was mixing drinks when he saw something. Bartenders see a lot of shady dudes and Max happened to notice what was going on with Trinity and decided to step in.
“You get hit on and whatnot but some people won’t take no for an answer,” @trinityallie told WFLA. “No bartender has ever stepped in for me and that’s why I thought it was so great and everyone should hear about it.”
After Max saw the man brushing up against Trinity and her friend, he acted.
I made him pose for this after the guy left lol just to show my appreciation

Walking up with a clipboard, he acted like he had her check. What he really had was a note with some instructions if she was in trouble. Here’s what it read:
“If this guy is bothering you, put your ponytail on your other shoulder, and I will have him removed. He’s giving me the creeps.”
It was the perfect note for Trinity to receive at the time, giving her the reassurance that she wouldn’t have to deal with this guy on her own.

After the creepy man left (when Max told him to), Trinity had Max pose for a photo with the note so she could post it.

It was an amazing thing to see and since the event, Max has gotten a lot of positive attention. Trinity even came back to say hello a few weeks later! While some called him a hero bartender, Max says something different:
“I see all the ‘hero bartender’ messages but I’m not a hero, I was just doing my job,” Gutierrez told WFLA.
It’s people like Max that can help make people feel safer in those sort of environments!
