The birth of a new baby is always cause for celebration.
As everybody knows, having a child can sometimes be a risky proposition. There can be pregnancy complications, family politics and financial difficulties to deal with, all of which can put a hamper on the excitement we feel for new life. Because having a baby is so difficult, it makes sense that over time people would look for auspicious signs during birth to try and determine the future.
If what happened in this story isn’t an auspicious sign, we don’t know what is.
On July 1st, 2017, Jordyn Eppard rushed to the hospital.
She was pregnant and though her child was supposed to come at the end of the month, something and changed and he was ready to come out now. When she arrived at the hospital, doctors told her she would need an emergency C-section. Despite all the complications, doctors were able to safely complete the surgery. Beauden Matthew James Eppard was born weighing eight pounds, 11 ounces.
Still, the family was stunned when they realized the significance of Beauden’s birthday.
As it turns out, Beauden had the same birthday as his father—and the same birthday as his grandfather before him.
Although sharing a birthday with one other person seems like a major coincidence when it happens, it’s actually not all that rare. In fact, in a room full of 23 people, there’s a 50% chance that two people inside it have the same birthday. When you increase that number to 75 people, the probabilty jumps to an incredible 99.9%. Still, Beauden’s birthday was much, much rarer than that.
The odds that Beauden would have the same birthday as both his father and grandfather are a staggering 33,374 to 1.
Above all, these kinds of stories can’t help but fill a person with a sense of wonder.
Perhaps it’s our tendency to find patterns but there’s something about this story that you just can’t shake—especially when you consider the fact that Beauden was born 14 days early! Whether you’re spiritual or agnostic, Beauden’s birthday is certainly an auspicious day in either sense, especially because the birth and the emergency procedures all went smoothly and safely.
