One of the best things about dogs is how each breed can be so different, with its own unique characteristics and qualities. Pugs, for example, are known for their adorable antics and cuddle-loving behavior, while Poodles are famed for their intelligence and Labradors are popular for their friendliness.
The German Shepherd, meanwhile, is renowned for its loyal nature, often taking on the role of a protector or guardian, especially if young children live in the home.
And when one German Shepherd thought her little human friend might be in danger from some dastardly sprinklers, she took it upon herself to sort out the problem!
The video begins with a toddler walking up to a sprinkler, which is shooting a big jet of water up into the air.
We can see the German Shepherd watching on from the side, seeming a little nervous as the toddler steps closer and puts his hand into the water stream.
It seems like the big dog is trying to figure out whether or not this situation is safe for her little friend, and moments later, she decides to intervene, gently nudging the toddler away and staring down the sprinkler!
Seconds later, the big dog begins her attack!
She launches at the sprinkler, snapping her mighty jaws around the water a few times as the toddler’s parents behind the camera burst into laughter!
Even though the water doesn’t seem to be stopping, the dog doesn’t give up, snapping a few more times and attacking the spray from several different angles as the young child watches on, totally bemused by the whole situation.
The child’s parents almost start howling with laughter at this point as the dog continues her assault.
Seeing that her bites aren’t having much of an effect, she decides to attack the water from further away, running across the lawn and snapping at it in the air, even heading right over to the street in order to attack a second sprinkler before diving back to the first.
It’s pretty hilarious, but we have to feel some sympathy for the poor pup, who is clearly just trying to do her best to protect her family from something she doesn’t quite understand.
This kind of behavior is very typical of German Shepherds, who have always been seen as gentle giants of the canine world – kind and loving to their friends and families, but always ready to leap into action and fight off any threats that might arrive.
The big dog carries on bolting around the yard, attacking both sprinklers while everyone laughs with glee.
Naturally, she gets absolutely soaked in the process and guzzles down a whole lot of water too, especially when she places her whole jaw around one of the sprinklers and seems to try and gobble it right up.
Over half a million people have watched the funny clip so far, and it’s a precious example of a protective pup doing her best to keep the family safe.
