You’ve definitely heard of Sir David Attenborough.
He’s a household name who rose to fame in the 70s for the BBC series “Life On Earth”, seen by more than 500 million viewers worldwide. His multi-part nature documentaries on BBC and Netflix have allowed the rest of the world to traipse along on his journeys around the planet, from jungles and deserts, to island archipelagos and the deep sea.
The 94-year-old conservationist boasts impressive writing and presentation skills which effectively pique viewers’ curiosity, resulting in the success of each documentary.
Considered a national treasure in Britain, Sir David Attenborough is also known for his rich, gentle, and familiar voice – narrating so beautifully that one can’t help but stay focused on the documentary on screen.
His continuous efforts have been fruitful not just in highlighting the planet’s natural beauty but in raising awareness on climate change as well.
And he’s not stopping anytime soon.
The wildlife filmmaker has a book and a film lined up, and he’s also recently joined the Instagram community.
What’s the big deal about Sir David Attenborough joining Instagram, you ask?
It’s everything. It’s Sir David Attenborough which means we can finally enjoy the right content on our feed.
Impressively (but not surprisingly), just a few hours from signing up, Sir David already gained almost 800K followers on the social network.
Now, he has 4.9 million followers.
He may not be personally managing the account, but the online community loves that he’s on board and can’t wait to see what content he has in store for everyone.
Fellow filmmakers Jonnie Hughes and Colin Butfield from “A Life On Our Planet” are helping the legendary conservationist run the account.
One of the photos on the widely followed page is of Sir David Attenborough and Prince William (mind the labels on the chairs) captioned,
“We had an amazing afternoon earlier this week when David showed Prince William his new film. They both share a passion for protecting the natural world and are supporting one another to raise awareness of the solutions at hand to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss. They’re working together on the @earthshotprize too – more on that soon.”
But what has to be the most powerful among the first posts on the page is a video message urging everyone to fight against climate change.
“The world is in trouble. Continents are on fire, glaciers are melting, coral reefs are dying, fish are disappearing from our oceans, the list goes on and on. But we know what to do about it, that’s why I’m tackling this new way for me of communication. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be recording messages to explain what the problems are and how we can deal with them. Join me or, as we used to say in those early days of radio, stay tuned.”
Sir David Attenborough hopes to inspire change through the messages he shares on Instagram.
“I’m making this move and exploring this new way of communication to me because the world is in trouble.”
Hit that follow button now and stay tuned for the global launch of the film “David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet” on Netflix, as well as his book entitled “A Life On Our Planet – My Witness Statement and Vision for the Future.”
