Capturing the aging process seemed impossible but one artist managed to do just that with a few strokes of his brush.
Spanish artist Sergi Cadenas creates incredible paintings that transform before your very eyes. All you have to do is to slowly walk past one of his creations and… Voila!

Walk up to one of Cadenas’s portraits from one direction and you’ll see a face. But then if you walk up to it from the opposite direction, you’ll also see a face—but a totally different one. Sometimes it’s a young face that ages as you walk from one side to another. Or not.
It’s a really impressive optical illusion.

One that has viewers thinking of how Sergi pulled it off. After all, it’s a brush and some paint. It forces the viewer to engage with the artwork in a different way and contemplate various perspectives.

It almost looks like two different faces joined together but when you walk back and forth, you can see both faces seamlessly blend into each other completing the aging process.
Cadenas’s is a self-taught artist who didn’t even become a painter until he was 30.

He got the idea for his mind-blowing oil paintings from “flip images” he’d seen when he was a kid. Sergi paints in his home studio in a small village in the Catalonia region of Spain. He uses friends, family, and neighbors as models.
It normally takes Cadenas a month to finish one.

But how does Sergi create the dual images? He fills an icing bag with painter’s paste then uses a decorator tip to create verticle relief lines with two 45 degree angles.
Cadenas was watching a neighbor, a pastry chef, and that gave him the idea.

Then he sketches out the basic facial features with a pencil before he paints the different faces from two different sides.
Sergi says,
“You have to get used to the lines being broken and not continuous on the canvas. But other than that, it’s like any other painting. He completes one side, then completes the other.”
Impressive!
“It’s the magic, the surprise effect that I like best.”
He continued.

This is just one of many impressive paintings.
Most of Cadenas’s pieces are in private collections, owned by patrons though some museums and galleries such as the Galeria Jordi Barnadas gallery in Barcelona have some of his works on display.
Go ahead and keep replaying this one. Your mind is never going to get used to Sergi’s brilliance.
“Whoever made this is extremely worthy of respect and admiration, lots of talent here”
A really impressed viewer commented.

Sergi’s work will you have literally coming back to see them, and from different angles and perspectives too!
This is no Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It’s just a brilliant Spanish artist whose hand can literally move through space and time, enthralling his viewers with his creative stroke of genius.
