During the late 1980s, Ingeborg McIntosh accepted a newborn child under foster care in her home. The moment she saw him, the woman knew she found love.

“They placed him in my arms and it was love at first sight,” Ingeborg shared with KPHO.

The little baby boy in her arms needed a family, and Ingeborg was happy to be his mom. Ingeborg fought hard to legally adopt the baby she fostered since birth.

Jordan was 4 years old when he became an official part of the McIntosh household.

Jordan’s birth mother had preferences at the time.

“She wanted him to go either into an African American home or a biracial home,” Ingeborg said.

There were no other homes available then except for the McIntosh family. Thankfully, after four years, the adoption process was finally completed.

Ingeborg was ecstatic to be Jordan’s mom, but eventually, this happy moment was overshadowed by sad news.

She found out that she had polycystic kidney disease and had to undergo a kidney transplant. It is not easy to find a suitable donor and this news brought the family sorrow.

Jordan knew that he might not be a match for his adoptive mom because they were not actually blood-related, but this did not stop him from trying. He checked with the doctors if he could donate a kidney to his beloved mom.

A fortunate turn of events.

While Jordan hoped to be a perfect match for his mom’s kidney transplant, the man did not really expect that he would be a suitable donor. But it turned out that he was.

Jordan found out that his kidney was a match for his mom’s operation and he could not be happier.

“I feel like this was my calling in life, I guess,” said Jordan. “Hopefully I can do more for her as I get older, but for the moment, it’s the least I could do.”

The operation went well and Ingeborg started her way to recovery.

The transplant was a success, giving Ingeborg a better chance in life. This was all because of her 27-year-old son who, despite being unrelated by blood, proved that there is nothing impossible when doing something out of love.

Jordan is also happy that he was able to help the mom who raised him.

“Everything she’s done for me since I was a kid, I just wanted to give it back to her, and show her how much I appreciate her,” he told KPHO.

The man hoped that by sharing his story, people would realize that it is never too late to pay kindness forward. And for him, it is the best thing ever because he was able to return the love and care he has received over the years to his beloved adoptive mom.

“It might be immediately, or 27 years down the line, but something good is going to come your way,” he said.

Family does not only extend to those who are related by blood. In Jordan’s story, what shone through was the incredible connection he had with his beloved mom, and being able to make a way for her to be healed is something that he will forever be grateful for.
