Movies usually have at least a smooch or two in them. Even if they aren’t romantic movies, a little love fling thrown in always adds some different dynamics! Will all that kissing, some actors aren’t down with locking lips with their partners for a variety of reasons. Let’s go over some of the most famous ones!
1. Tobey Maguire
Spiderman has one of the most iconic kiss scenes in the history of modern film. He’s upside down, it’s raining, and they decided to kiss after a daring rescue. Tobey told reporters that he didn’t even focus on the kiss because he was gasping for breath as water poured into his nose and mouth!
2. Liam Hemsworth
In the Hunger Games movies, J Law would do her best to make the scenes as gross as possible for Liam! Isn’t that terrible?
She’s one of my best friends, I love her, but if we had a kissing scene, she would make a point of eating garlic or tuna fish or something that was disgusting. Right before the scene she’d be like, ‘Yeah, I ate tuna’ or ‘I had garlic, and I didn’t brush my teeth.’ And I’d be like, ‘Fantastic, I can’t wait to get in there and taste it!’
3. Thandie Newton
Thandie didn’t love Tom’s kisses on the set of MI2! She called him a gross kisser, in fact!
I’d really go home at the end of the day actually moaning about how hot it was and how many times we had to do it.
4. Kirsten Dunst
For her second appearance on our list, Kirsten didn’t want to kiss Brad Pitt because she thought it was gross! She was 11 at the time, so it makes sense. She didn’t end up kissing anyone else until she was 16!
5. Reese Witherspoon
Reese didn’t love kissing Robert Pattinson in Water for Elephants because he was sick! I can’t believe they forced the two of them to kiss while Robert had a “disgusting cold”!
Rob possibly had the most hideous horrible cold of any co-star I’ve ever had to do a love scene with ever in my entire life,” she said. “He was literally snorting and snotting through every second of it—and it was not appealing. I’m talking green, infectious, disgusting—I’m not kidding!
6. Josh Hutcherson
J Law doesn’t seem to be a great kisser as TWO separate actors have claimed it wasn’t great!
“To be frank, ‘no.’ It was a little abrasive, if I’m being honest. A little shocking.”
7. Miles Teller
In The Spectacular Now, Miles had to kiss Shailene Woodley, and apparently, she had a case of bad breath!
“Before our first kissing scene, Shailene took these Chinese dirt supplements and shoved them in her mouth. It’s like a dirt pouch, and it smells like crap. “
8. James McAvoy
James had to kiss Angelina in the movie Wanted, but he ended up being uncomfortable! He claims it was because he met her and immediately had to kiss her in the next scenes:
It was her first day, it was her first scene. I had been on the set for two weeks — it was like, ‘Hey, how you doing, nice to meet you, I’m James, oh, we’re going to do a kissing scene now!’
9. Emma Watson
Emma kissed Rupert Grint in the Harry Potter films, but she was already friends with him and had been for years! She felt like she was kissing her brother and tried to rush through the whole thing.
10. Vanessa Hudgens
Vanessa went from Disney movies to things less “family-friendly” rather quickly. She had to shoot an intimate scene with James Franco who would have to see her naked. It made the whole thing weird for her.
11. Dwayne Johnson
The Rock and Steve Carell had a hilarious kissing scene in Get Smart. That doesn’t mean it was a good kiss!
So the bottom of a cat’s paw – the soft supple part underneath – that’s what Steve Carell’s lips are like. But his tongue is like kitty cat litter. That’s the physical experience.
12. Carey Mulligan
Carey explained on the Graham Norton Show that she was really uncomfortable kissing Johnny Depp in a scene that never even made air!
“It was 16 times, but it was cut out of the film because I looked so uncomfortable… I was kissing Johnny Depp and I got really nervous.”
13. Jennifer Lawrence
With 2 strikes against J Law, now it’s time for her to give her opinion on another costar. Kissing Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook was apparently “wet”!
“After the second take she said, “You’re a wet kisser.” You don’t want to hear that. It was not a compliment.”
14. Hugh Jackman
Huge Jacked Man kissed Nicole Kidman in Australia, something that people all over the world dream of! Turns out, it was a flop. He explained that he just has a tough time intimately kissing someone in front of 70 other people.
15. Virginie Ledoyen
Ol’ Leo and Virginie kissed n the movie The Beach and it wasn’t a very romantic event for her! She saw him as dispassionate – a tough criticism for an actor!
“I think Leonardo is a nice guy. But I don’t want him as a lover. There was no honest passion. No real sensitivity in our love scenes. In our underwater love scenes all I could think of was not drowning. I can’t even remember his kiss.”
16. Helena Bonham Carter
Helena had to kiss Woody Allen in Mighty Aphrodite and described the event as a “chore”.
“Allen tells you up front the certain ways of kissing he does not want. No exchange of liquid is permitted. It can be a bit offensive because he makes no effort at all. It’s like kissing the Berlin Wall.”
17. Alyson Hannigan
Alyson had to kiss Jason Segel during the tv show How I Met Your Mother but didn’t like it because of his taste! He was a smoker and she said he tasted like an ashtray. We can’t blame her!
18. Kristen Stewart
Yep, you guessed it, it was with Taylor Lautner and for Kristen, they were hard to shoot. They weren’t the worst thing, just a bit odd for her:
Taylor [and I] have so much fun with this stuff because our intimate moments are so few and far between — and weird.
Kissing isn’t all that great when it’s in front of people with total strangers filing it, huh? Makes sense! We’ve learned that aside from standard awkwardness, the biggest turn-offs for kissing is:
- being too “wet” (really gross to think about)
- and being sick (sorry Robert)
