More than a decade ago, in Yaroslavl, Russia, a person heard a baby crying from one of the neighboring houses nearby.
They were curious but didn’t think much of it— until days later, when the baby was still crying.
The neighbors hadn’t seen anyone entering or leaving the house, and the lights had remained off for days. Sensing something bad had occurred, they alerted authorities.
When police arrived, they were stunned by what they saw— the house had been completely emptied.
The former occupants seemed to have taken everything… Everything except their 1-year-old daughter, that is.
When the authorities discovered the little girl, she was lying on the cold, dirty floor of the home, and it was apparent that she had been left there for days. She was quickly rushed to the hospital.
Although police managed to identify the toddler as Liza Verbitskaya, they (oddly) could not find identify her parents.
As Liza lay in the hospital recuperating, she developed an unexpected friendship with one of the hospital visitors— the mother of a young boy being treated in a neighboring hospital room.
The woman, Inna Nika, felt extreme compassion for the little girl who had been so carelessly abandoned by the very people who were supposed to protect her.
Every day, she would bring Liza gifts and good. But one day when she arrived, Liza had disappeared.
Inna learned that Liza had recuperated and had been placed in an orphanage.
In her absence, Inna could not stop thinking about the little girl who had had such an effect on her heart— ultimately deciding to find her at the orphanage and adopt her as her very own.
Although Inna loved Liza dearly, the girl had clearly been traumatized by her past, slowly displaying the signs to her loving, adoptive family.
At 2 years old, she still could not chew food or walk, and was devastatingly scared of loud noises.
In an attempt to help her daughter feel more comfortable in her body, Inna enrolled the girl in a dance class, where she flourished quickly.
Despite the progress, growing up was tough for Liza— she was often bullied by classmates for being different.
But now a Russian celebrity, Liza has risen above the circumstances of her tragic beginnings and proven her bullies and doubters wrong!
Since those early days, Liza has won numerous beauty contests, talent shows, and modeling gigs—ultimately demonstrating the fact that she is aware of her worth— even if her biological parents were not.
After becoming famous in Russia, Liza was reportedly contacted by her biological parents— a request which she ultimately rejected.
According to Newsner, “She has been given [her mother’s] details and it is up to [Liza] to decide if she ever wants to contact the mother who abused her when she was just a baby.”
It takes a truly strong person to overcome such horrific beginnings. Good job, Liza!
May the days of your future be filled with brilliant success!
