With everything going on in the world right now, it’s hard to find some positivity. What’s always interesting to see is how other people are handling the social distancing and quarantine rules, and finding ways to bring joy to a sometimes grim situation. This war veteran was just doing something that brought himself joy, and ended up bringing everyone who watched a little joy as well.
Chuck Franzke, from Wisconsin, isn’t letting this quarantine stop him from enjoying the little things in life. He captured the nation’s heart when his front porch dance to Justin Timberlake’s ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ recently went viral.
The 97 year-old WWII veteran and his socially distance dancing has captured everyone’s attention, including Justin Timberlake’s, who was touched by the video. The singer even commented on instagram that it made his day.
Along with several local news stories covering the upbeat video, it was viewed millions of times all over social media and YouTube.
The video was first shared on Twitter by the Stars and Stripes Honor flight account, which is an organization that raises funds and flies war veterans to Washington D.C. to visit war memorials and museums. Chuck has been a member for years.
Though the video is short, Chuck makes his way to his front porch as soon as the music is heard playing. And at 97 years young , he’s still got some moves. He shuffles across the stoop. Throws his arms to the rhythm of the song, and moves his feet in time to the beat- never missing a step.
This also isn’t the first time that Chuck has showed off his moves for the public. In 2017 his wife Beverly recorded him dancing to ‘Jingle Bells’. And later in 2018 she captured a video of him doing the forever popular floss dance to the Christmas favorite ‘Let it Snow’.
Beverly and Chuck have been married for over 80 years and Chuck even says that music is one of the things that brought them together. “We were Big Band fans” he said. “I used to jitterbug when I was young. I can’t jitterbug today. My balance isn’t good, but I like music and I like her too.”
The end of this quarantine may be unclear, but with people like Chuck spreading joy and bringing smiles, things don’t seem so scary and we can all enjoy a few minutes of dancing together.
