The Coronavirus pandemic had been hard for all of us. Everyone was forced to stay at home which makes it hard to find love and date, other people. We can even say that dating is nonexistent.

But, these 94-year-olds proved us all wrong!

Dating is a fun, yet sometimes scary experience. You spend your time with a person in the hopes of establishing a romantic relationship with them. Some dates ended up with another date while others don’t seem to work out. Others put an age-limit on dating which should not be the case.

With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing everyone to stay at home, dating has been almost impossible. But, not for these two lovers!

John Shults and Joy Morrow-Nulton are both 94 years old. They have both been widowed twice, yet they are determined to find love again. The pandemic can definitely take a step back because it won’t stop them from loving each other.

To maintain their relationship, the two would call each other every day. Not a day goes by without hearing them talk to each other.

“They’d find a way to get together. They did whatever it took.”Shults’ son Pete said.

Aside from talking to each other, they would take long drives to nowhere, batting balloons around the house and giving gifts.

“She was worth it. It was a pain in the neck, though,” Shults said of maintaining the relationship through the pandemic.

When you truly love each other, you will go to great lengths to maintain it. This lovely couple is truly making us believe in love!

To show her appreciation, Morrow-Nulton gave Shuts a gift.

“She’s richer than I am, just so you know. She bought me a walker,” Shults said. “$159, I think. I told you she had money. She did have it until she bought my walker.”

Of course, Shults also has a gift up his sleeves. He purchased a little something for her too. And I think we all know what it is!

It took him a dozen times before she finally said yes.

“I’m looking forward to getting married to my wonderful woman,” says John Shults.

But before they can finally plan and say their “I do”, the couple whose birthdays are only 12 days apart wants to be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. Luckily, their wish is about to come true.

As of today, the two are finished with their second dose of the vaccine. Their families are happy and excited to start the wedding preparations!

“We were just saying, like reminiscing, on that it was emotional because we’ve been so careful around them, and just how important it is to get the vaccine and, you know, what it means to everyone surrounding them, as well,” says Emily Loughran, Shults’ granddaughter.

According to the CDC, eight of 10 COVID-19 deaths in the country have been 65 or older. The New York State Department of Health reports that 13.4% of the state’s population has received at least one dose of the vaccine.

When asked when their wedding will be, this is Morrow-Nulton’s response.

“It’s going to be at the end of March or beginning of April,” Morrow-Nulton said.

Everyone is excited about their wedding! Even State Senator Michelle Hinchey presented the couple with a certificate to honor their inspiring journey.

“We have had such a challenging year and to be here for a moment like this is so special and uplifting, you can feel it. You can feel the happiness that people have,” Hinchey said.

Joy and John’s story is truly inspiring! The old adage “love conquers love” seems very fitting for the two. As they start their journey together, may we remember and hope that love can heal us and encourage us to live.
