A scary moment for one family ended the best way possible.

Having a loved one suffering from dementia is a constant worry. For one family, a potentially tragic situation had a happy ending thanks to one caring delivery driver, an outdoor security camera, and an all-important ID bracelet. A Ring camera captured the moment when 92-year-old Gigi steps away from her front porch and wanders down the street in suburban Franklin Park, NJ. The elderly woman suffers from advanced-stage Alzheimer’s disease and her granddaughter, Karen, was picking up a prescription for her mom at the time.

Amazon to the rescue.

Gigi was spotted by Wilmar, an Amazon delivery driver, who pulled over to see if she needed help. Thankfully she was wearing a medical alert bracelet Wilmar used to get in touch with Karen. “I was delivering and I saw this older lady was walking by. She waved at me, which isn’t an odd occurrence, people wave at you all the time as an Amazon driver. But she was waving at me like something happened. I noticed how she had this wristband on. And it had her name and her information, as well as who to contact.” – Wilmar told Ring

Wilmer takes Gigi safely home.

Karen told Wilmer to drop her at her house and turned on her Ring camera to see that Gigi was safe. Sure enough, the camera caught a video of Wilmer dropping the elderly woman home and opening the door for her. Karen was relieved to know that she was now out of danger.

“I was able to flip on my Ring camera and watch them come into the driveway…It gave us that extra layer of comfort and relief that we could see everything, that she was safe, she was where she needed to be.” – Karen told Ring

A huge thank you to the person that stopped to help.

Karen knew that without Wilmar’s help, the day could have had a much different ending. He took the time to find out if Gigi was ok and then followed through to bring her home.

“I felt that Wilmar went above and beyond. We have that type of a great close-knit community here, that if there’s something that a driver’s going to spot, that’s out of line, he’s going to say, ‘I’m going to make sure that my customers are taken care of because this doesn’t look right…It made me feel safe that she was taken care of by somebody who’s been to my home, somebody that had a connection to the house and the family.“ – Karen told Ring

Looking out for one another.

Delivery drivers are an important part of our community and Wilmar exemplifies this with his wish to keep his community safe. “I think it’s very important that the community looks out for one another. If something happens, see something, say something. You just wanna make sure that your neighbors are safe, everybody’s happy. It benefits all as long as we’re all contributing.” – Wilmar told Ring

Gigi is lucky to have met Wilmar.

After bringing Gigi home, Wilmar called Karen to let her know. She could witness the entire rescue from her Ring camera.

Safe and sound.

Wilmar can be seen in the video holding the door open for Gigi. She was a very lucky lady to have crossed paths with this tremendous individual.

Gigi’s family is happy to have her home.

Hopefully, Gigi won’t be going on any more solo walks but if something were to happen, Karen is happy to have the Ring camera and her favorite Amazon delivery man around just in case.
