While pregnancy can be the best period in a woman’s life, it can also be a time of uncertainty, insecurity, and stress.

There are so many women out there who long to become mothers, who would do anything in order to be able to hold a baby in their arms.

Then there are others who won’t.

There are those women who accidentally become pregnant and don’t know what to do.

That’s when abandonment happens.

They are often teens or drug addicts.

They happen to get pregnant and don’t wish to bring up their baby.

Many of them don’t have the baby’s father’s or the family’s support, so they end up either having an abortion or abandoning the newborn baby.

And, while there is the option of safely giving up a baby, some still choose to abandon them in the middle of nowhere.

Like a baby who was abandoned in a cardboard box or another one that was found and kept warm by a litter of puppies.

Or the one in today’s story.

This baby certainly has a guardian angel on Earth- and she’s called Elysia.

Elysia, a 9-year-old schoolgirl from Lowell, Indiana, was playing in her backyard when she saw something moving behind the bushes.

Could it be a pig?

At first, she thought it was one of her piglets, but she went to take a better look anyway.

“It could be a baby or a pig,” the young girl told reporters. “It’s not, like, ordinary to find a little baby in your yard.”

Elysia had no idea what that was, but it certainly looked like a baby. She noticed her little feet, but she didn’t know if it was a human baby or a piglet.

“I don’t know it just freaked me out, I didn’t know what it was,” she said.

So, she decided to go bring her mom outside to check on it.

“That’s when I realized that the placenta was still there,” Elysia’s mother, Heidi Laub, said. “It was a miracle from God (that it survived).”

They called in for help.

Mother and daughter called 911 and waited until the emergency services arrived for help.

The baby was then taken to the hospital, where doctors predicted that she had been left there for at least a few hours and maybe overnight.

In fact, maggots had started appearing on the placenta and umbilical cord by the time she was found.

The baby was finally safe with the local authorities. Her mother was later tracked down and identified as a runaway teenager.

And, although what she did after she gave birth could have cost the newborn’s life, Elysia’s mom explains that the teenage mother, too, needs help.

“I really think everyone needs to say a prayer for this mother,” Laub said. “She’s probably not a bad person, but probably really scared, and needs help.”

Indeed, this is a reminder that pregnant teenage girls should have the support of their families or their community.

This way, neither themselves nor their babies will be put at risk.
