Waffle House is known for their sweet, delectable waffles, their great coffee, and their fine selection of breakfast items.
But this chain has something much sweeter to show off: an employee with unconditional love for his daughters.
This is Waffle House employee Devonte Gardner. He works hard and loves hard.
Devonte has two daughters who he works to provide for. They mean the world to him, and it seems like no task is too great for him if it means his girls get to be happy.
Everyday, Devonte walks to his shift or commutes. It may be for a good reason, but it’d sure be nice if he didn’t have to.
Devonte and his two daughters resided in a hotel, which they had to leave. His daughters got sick from a mold infection in the building.
At his job, Devonte’s kind demeanor and friendly aura made him a lot of friends. One of them was 8-year-old Kayzen.
Kayzen, like many customers, grew to appreciate and care for Devonte. He could see what a kind soul Devonte was and how hard he was working for his two kids.
With Devonte needing to pay almost $60 a day, all his salary and tips get spent not long after he gets them.
“Devonte’s just a really nice person, really good guy. Super nice to everyone he meets.” said Kayzen
The reputation Devonte made for himself at work eventually paid off. Not that he was expecting anything, of course.
Little Kayzen organized a fundraiser for the single working dad of 2.
After years of working his back off for his beloved kids, he deserves a helping hand.
The fundraiser was meant to get him a car and a rental property. This would take a huge burden off of his shoulders – something he more than deserves by now.
All across the world, there’s countless people like Devonte working tirelessly with the hope of creating a better future for themselves. If the opportunity presents itself to help one of them, why wouldn’t you take it?
Besides, the person preparing your delicious breakfast waffles deserves a treat of their own, right?
“I’m always counting my blessings. I’m always thankful for anything anyone gives me. So it made me almost cry this morning.” said Devonte.
Kayzen did a wonderful thing for Devonte, and it made him feel pretty darn good.
That’s the thing about helping others. It’s a mutual feeling of delight and warmth.
Kayzen’s parents are, of course, really proud of him. He made a huge difference in this man’s life.
And just like you should, Kayzen didn’t expect any congratulations or anything in return.
The warm feeling of helping someone else was all he needed.
“It just feels good to help someone else. ” Kayzen added.
Since a month ago, the GoFundMe far exceeded the goal. The goal was $5,000, and they hit an astonishing $117,000 in donations!
Devonte now has a car to drive to work in, and a place to stay with his two daughters.
It really shows you the power of kindness and mutual help, huh?
