In Belle Elementary School in West Virginia, everyone knows a familiar face.

She is Frances Buzzard or Miss Frances for everyone in the school.

She’s always available to accommodate requests from fellow custodians, teachers, and even students.

Miss Frances is also sweet and caring, especially with the students.

But Miss Frances has a secret.

Amanda Mays, the school principal, found out about Miss Frances’s secret, though, and knew she had to confront her about it.

In fact, she wanted to do it on Miss Frances’s upcoming 77th birthday.

What secret could merit calling someone out no their own birthday? Well, that’s just it.

Miss Frances has never had a birthday party.

Everyone was excited to surprise Miss Frances with her first-ever birthday party, and they knew exactly how to pull it off.

The whole school was in on it.

It was January 19 and, just after lunch, Miss Frances and fellow custodian Rendell Heater were called to go to the school’s cafeteria and gym.

“Rendell and Miss Frances, could you please report to the cafeteria?” the custodians heard their names on the intercom.

As quickly as they could, the two custodians went to the cafeteria.

Miss Frances didn’t have a clue of what was about to happen, but they already informed Rendell, so he knew there was a surprise.

He allowed Miss Frances to go inside first.

“Surprise!”

Tiny voices echoed through the cafeteria.

All the kids and school staff greeted the unsuspecting birthday celebrant.

“Happy birthday, Miss Frances!” said Principal Amanda Mays.

The school custodian smiled as she saw everyone gathered together for her. It was so special since she had never experienced this before.

We then hear the principal explaining that since Miss Frances would be out on her birthday, they decided to surprise her sooner.

They gave Miss Frances her very first birthday party.

They made her dress the part.

Principal Mays gave the custodian a “Happy Birthday” sash and made her wear a pink tiara on her head.

Then, they asked her to sit on the chair that was in the middle of the cafeteria.

Miss Frances sat down, it was obvious that the kind custodian was so happy being surrounded by the lovely staff and students of Belle Elementary school.

That day, she was the queen, seated on her throne, enjoying her first birthday party.

Of course, the queen must be entertained.

Following that, they showed an endearing video that was a compilation of historic events with her edited into them.

Everyone sang “Happy Birthday”

They also gave her cards and banners and even presented her with an assortment of cupcakes, complete with a little candle.

Of course, a birthday party won’t be complete without the celebrant blowing the candle, right?

When asked if she had already experienced having a birthday party, she said she doesn’t remember any.

Oh, but there was one instance when they planned a party for her.

Her first party just never happened.

“They had me one, but it was so icy and cold, nobody came,” she told the interviewer.

Her family was also very frugal.

She explained that her family didn’t have enough money, so they didn’t celebrate birthdays or other occasions.

In the middle of the cafeteria, the soon-to-be 77-year-old custodian smiled as she experienced her first-ever birthday party.
