A 7-year-old girl is being hailed as a hero after saving her great-grandmother who was trapped under a vehicle.
It was a typical day for young Mariah Galloway, seven years old, who just got picked up from school by her great-grandma.
Upon reaching their home in West Bloomfield, the woman parked the car and stepped out of it…or so she thought.
It turned out that the car was actually in reverse, and as soon as the woman got out, the car started to roll out of her control.
Unfortunately, Mariah was still inside the vehicle when it moved.
“So she was picking me up from school and she thought the car was in park, but it was in reverse,” Mariah shared with WXYZ. “And she got out and it started moving and she was trying to stop it because I was in it.”
Fearing for her great-granddaughter’s safety, the woman decided to stop the car with her physical strength.
In the process, her leg and foot got stuck in one of the SUV’s wheels which began to drag her underneath.
Young Mariah saw what happened and the smart little girl quickly sprung into action in order to save her grandma.
The kid pulled out the keys from the ignition and quickly jumped out of the slowly moving car.
She ran for their door which was just a few meters away from the car.
Mariah punched on the doorbell and called for her mom frantically.
Porchia Lane, Mariah’s mom, was inside their home when she heard her daughter’s loud calls for help.
She immediately opened the door and saw that the little girl was back where the vehicle was.
“When I opened the door all I heard was Mariah screaming. When I got out there, there was blood everywhere.”
It was lucky that Mariah’s grandma was able to free herself from the tire.
The three of them waited for the ambulance that arrived soon after Porchia called for help.
The elderly woman was brought to the hospital and despite her injuries, she is doing quite well and has started to recover from the terrifying incident.
She needed blood transfusions but, all in all, Mariah’s grandma is doing fine and is on her way to healing.
The hero who saved the day is no other than Mariah, whose quick thinking saved her grandma from further injuries.
Her response to the situation was unexpected for her young age, and her mom is very proud and grateful for her daughter.
She is one kind and smart young lady and she deserved to be rewarded for it.
Mariah’s birthday was just around the corner and Porchia saw that it was the perfect opportunity to show appreciation to her daughter.
On the night of Mariah’s 8th birthday, the young girl was gifted with a mini-surprise party.
She definitely was a hero and she deserved all of the love and appreciation she was given.
“She was trying to save Mariah, and here Mariah saved her,” Porchia shared with WXYZ.
When asked about her advice to other people, the little hero shared this:
“Be very careful and always follow your heart.”
