Many of us are doing what we can to help friends and neighbors in need during the coronavirus crisis. However, there are some shining stars among us.

When seven-year-old Cavanaugh Bell said he wanted to use his savings to help his elderly neighbors, his mom asked how much of the $600 he wanted to put into the project.

His response:

He wanted to use all of it.

A kid with a lot of kindness to offer

He started by grocery shopping for his grandmother, who couldn’t go out shopping herself because of her age and the risk of exposure to the virus.

But Cavanaugh’s heart was bigger than just that.

He wanted to put together care packages for all his elderly neighbors, because to him, they are his friends. This kid is a friend to everyone.

Starting something amazing

He and his mom went shopping with his savings, which he had collected from birthday and holiday gifts (three birthdays and two Christmases to be exact).

Once they had all the food they needed for the project, they made sixty-eight care packages that included bread, fruit, vegetables, and other healthy foods.

Then, they went together to deliver the food in person to all the houses that it needed to go to.

Cavanaugh wanted to make sure that each package was being received. There were a lot of people who were very happy to see his smiling face at their door.

Going viral for all the right reasons

His efforts did not go unnoticed, and soon the $600 that he started with was replaced by a whole lot more.

Cavanaugh’s story was shared far and wide on the internet and even picked up by major news channels. Everyone was touched by the impact he was making, and they wanted to help him make an even more significant impact.

Getting bigger

Instead of letting all the sudden fame go to his head, Cavanaugh and his mom used that attention to get more funding. Their fundraising efforts have now brought them more than $10,000. They are also getting a lot of grocery items donated directly from people in the community.

In fact, their little operation has gotten so big that they are now using donated gym space to store and distribute all the grocery items. There is just too much to fit in their living room these days!

Now, they can reach further than before, and the two can feed hundreds of people through the community pantry.

The two of them have even set up a simple system for those in need to request a care package. They have really thought of everything.

Making an impact

Cavanaugh isn’t new to making a positive impact. When he was bullied, he did something about it and started a non-profit organization, called Cool&Dope, to share positivity and show that even small kids can have a big impact.

But it turns out that it’s not just other kids who are in his heart. It’s big enough to hold the entire community, including his many elderly neighbors.

Making a difference every day
