The world has been pretty crappy in recent years. Sometimes, we look around and it seems like the world is full of bad things. And 2020 hasn’t been any different, starting with bushfires through Australia, war, and now, a global pandemic.

Coronavirus has officially hit 166 countries and territories. The virus, which was first detected in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, has claimed the lives of more than 8,000 people around the world. It’s caused a complete shutdown in countries like Italy and Spain where people are now confined to their homes to slow the spread of the disease.

In the United States, President Trump declared a national state of emergency. Many states are asking people to shelter where they are, while businesses and non-essential stores close their doors.

It’s a frightening time. For most of us, this experience is unprecedented. We don’t know what will happen or who will get sick. But even in this scary time, people are finding ways to support and help one another. Even while quarantined, we’re learning how to reach out — emotionally, if not physically.

Although we don’t know what will happen, we have to keep helping each other.
